The too perfect theory is just that, a theory. I don't always agree with it. Especially since a lot of lay people come up with very contrived methods for how things are accomplished and they are usually way off the mark.
In the case of this trick, I don't think it applies because there isn't one, completely obvious method for it. As magicians, we watch the demo and have a pretty good idea about the first part. But to a lay audience watching you live with misdirection and good presentation, they don't even catch onto the first part let alone the finish.

And that one possible way is the actual method that is used. So as the thinking goes, you sometimes have to make the effect less clean (or perfect) to throw the spectator from the actual method. For instance when I perform the Cigarette thru Quarter I present it as an illusion that makes it appear as if the cigarette is going through the quarter. I actually won't show the penetrated quarter as definitively as the gimmick allows. I want there to be that sliver of doubt. Otherwise the method, imho, is just too obvious. Same thing with nail writers. I won't get their 3 digit number spot on. By missing it by one or two it throws them just far enough way from the method. When I receive interlace, I may feel the same way about it. We'll see.

Its a fine line between "magic that leaves them stunned" and "too perfect theory magic", and presentation is usually the deciding factor. (just don't mention TV magic...)

I don't believe in the TOO PERFECT THEORY. If you hire a guitarist...he will never sing TOO WELL. There will never be a trick TOO PERFECT for a magician. That being said, this is another topic, let's get back on the INTERLACE road.
Tricks aren't important...people are!!!

Like "near miss" with airplanes. It's actually a "near hit". An effect that doesn't sell the audience and make them climb aboard isn't too perfect. It's flawed in a way that makes it not believeable.

All I have to say is after performing this effect, I always recieve a smile. The look on their face is payment enough. I will not go into a review, as most of the reviews so far are spot on. I love this effect, and the method behind it. I really love the rope routine that Ricahrd teaches, and of course the use of flash paper to vanish the ring. Actually, I love any effect that I can use flash paper lol. The dvd is excellent and the teaching is very well taught. Richard has left nothing out of his dvd. The only thing I would have liked to know was were Dasha is from(I love french Canadian women)sorry could not resist. Back to interlace, if you want an effect that gets excellent reactions, then order this effect, you will not be disappointed. This is TOO perfect!!!!(also could not resist hahaha)

Received my interlaced today....sweeeeeet!!
In case there are still some of you on the fence....BUY THIS NOW. I have been wanting a magical, workable, and logical ring flight for years (forget old fashioned key cases). INTERLACE ticks ALL the boxes, plus you get TEN real world routines. NOTHING and I mean NOTHING has been left out by Richard Sanders. Even the tip on which way round to keep your lighter in the pocket (you'll know if you have the effect). Richard, if you're reading this....PURE MAGIC MAN!! |

Finally got mine yesterday and it was worth the wait. Finally a product that actually delivers practicality for walk-around. One of the best ideas I've come across in the last 20 years. Bravo Richard.

What's great about this is that at first, the set up seems just a bit overwhelming. But then once the one time set up is done, the rest is so easy!
