Hi everyone! Just recently a thought popped into my head to do a manipulation routine with sunglasses. I've thought about changing from one pair to another while they're still on my face, changing colors, making them vanish, appear, etc. I just don't know how to do it. Are there any reads, information, or products out there to help me achieve this? Thanks in advance!

I don't know of any information on magic with sunglasses, I know of individual tricks here and there, maybe they'll help. There's the floating sunglasses by Yigal Mesika, I know Ellis and Webster have "Run Around Sue" which is a cups and balls routine but there's a sunglasses production somewhere in there and I know there's a gimmick out there for doing a sunglasses vanish. Outside of that, I know of nothing in the way of real manipulation.

Thanks for those references MajikAbra! I'll have to check them out. I'm still looking for more of a quickchange type of routine with sunglasses.

Topaz also has a set of notes out on his work. There are some great pieces in there, including a production where the glasses appear on the face with the hands behind the back way out of reach! Amazing!!

Taylor you've started from the right place. Get down the ideas of what you want to do. That is to say, what you want spectators to see and experience. Get this down firmly, on paper and in your head first and then start setting about working out how to achieve it.
I reccommend doing this because if you jump to quickly into looking to see what effects are out there and watching other acts that have used sunglasses in their shows you'll be in danger of ending up doing either a dealers dem or looking like a poor version of one of the acts that have sucessfully used sunglasses before. Having the ideas set out first allows you to then look at any products out there and say...nah that doesn't fit with what I'm trying to do. Without the ideas there first it'll be very tempting to try and make the act fit around the props rather than making the props serve the act. but when you're ready the suggestions for things to research and investigate already mentioned here are going to be second best places to look next to possibly to inside your own head. Best of luck with it. Neal

I second the fact that Topas does indeed have a section devoted to sunglass style magic and manipulation in his lecture notes. I saw him do this lecture a few years back and he gives some very nice ideas and suggestions. It would be worth looking into.

Any lead information for obtaining Topas' lecture notes? I searched and only found he and his wife only use an agent contact listing.
