I am putting together a medly of stereotypical magic for my show. Any ideas of FAST effects that do NOT involve large props that can be done in a hectic comedy style? I know, there is always professor cheers, but I'm looking for faster visual effects that can be strung together. My setup is that "I'm going to perform everything you think of when you hear the word magic within the next 5 minutes". I know, I know, it's kind of hard to explain.

Well you'll want to cover every type of effect
Appearance (pole, broom, spade, ladder or other similar effect) Vanish (paper balls over your own head, vanishing bottle in paper bag) Transformation (colour changing anything or use rope from cut and restored but be a rope to silk) Transportation (using some simple slight of hand) Broken/cut and restored (rope) Penetration (Gut Buster if you use assistant, thumb through shirt(tt)) Resistance to damage (knife through arm) Levitation (Zombie) |

"I'm going to perform everything you think of when you hear the word magic within the next 5 minutes". Well, you'll need a rabbit and a top hat somewhere...if playing for frantic comedy, a spring rabbit (slinky in a fur coat) would work. Plunging your fist into a bowl of water and throwing a handfull of confetti into the air could comically represent the Snowstorm. Gotta have a feather bouquet come out of your sleeve at some point. Maybe my cartoon at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGuWRlPPdGY would give you some ideas. Dan Wolfe, aka. "EARL" |

There is (or at least was) an 'official' record for the most effects peformed in 60 seconds. This has been held by Paul Daniels and (I believe) Topper Martyn at various times. I think Paul did it originally. It was on one of his UK TV shows. Maybe you could go for breaking the record every show.

AmazingEARL, that was a really cute and funny video. Just out of curiousity, when Magic Mac did the torn & restored newspaper, was that supposed to be you on the wanted poster? The picture of Mac with a crooked mustache on the front page was adorable.

Thanks SoCal and clynim! That is me on the wanted poster during the newspaper tear. The picture on the remaining piece in Mac's right hand is actually one of my wedding photos, too.
Sort of like Alfred Hitchcock doing a cameo in "Lifeboat." <wink> Dan Wolfe/"EARL" |

*Color changing silk
*Pull out two rings; link them, unlink them, toss away. *Use a 1-way forcing deck; shove them at somebody, yell "pick a card", when they do, yell "Eight of hearts" or whatever, and go on. *For a finale, say, "And now, the famous Flying Magician as done by David Copperfield!" Jump into the air, and take a bow as if you'd just vanished the Statue of Liberty. I think it would be funny, also, to use cheesy "Skater's Waltz" type music, but speeded up. |

I remeber a video, it was in japanese where the two men performed every magic trick in under 5 minutes VERY FUNNY. check around for that video and it will be a great help. As far as the tricks went, youve seen them all, just look around for the classic silk tricks, rope tricks, etc.

I've just recently heard about the Napoleons on here, but I can't find anything about this online.

The Napoleons were popular in the 90's... I don't know if they are still doing anything... haven't heard about them in a long time. But yes, their nitch was tons of tricks in a short amount of time... they had a huge table full of crap, the music would start and one guy would do the trick, while one kind of narrated... if I remember correctly.

I did end up coming across the video. Not exactly what I had in mind, but interesting.

Two card monte (and NOT Blaine's mistitled version of "Be Honest, What is it?") Simply two cards - which hand is it in?
Fantastic video Dan! Love the subtleties that only magicians would get! |
