Terrific, if somewhat expensive.
But, if you can use it, it will pay for itself. |

Hi all
Peter, you said.... 'Terrific, if somewhat expensive.' I have never seen one of these until this thread prompted me to do a search. Well, they are going for $19.99 on eBay. I doubt that is what you had in mind when you said they were expensive Hope this helps. Duncan

The ones on e-Bay are "voice stress analyzers" -- i.e., "real" lie detectors -- not the magic prop currently available.

Ah
Thanks for the update. I just typed "The Portable Lie Detector" into google and got pages of results for the product which is listed on eBay. The prices were FAR higher than I saw thrm on eBay for, and as I could think of quite a few magical uses for the real thing I just put two and two together, and got.. err. 5, I think. Do you have a link to the correct product? Thanks Duncan

I don't have a link. Hocus Pocus used to sell it, maybe they still do, although it doesn't show up in a search of their site. You could phone them at 800-407-4040.
The prop is made by J. Errol Nelson and costs $195. Jerry |

This is a prop that I have been interested since I read the first ads on Hocus-Pocus. It seemed too expensive at the time but then my wife asked me what I wanted for christmas and this was it. I saw an ad in Stevens Magic and told her to order it there. It arrived....i opened it on christmas morning...and it didn't work (no sound). I have since returned it and did a search of dealers and found that Brad Burts had one left. Hocus Pocus didn't list it on thier web site or I would have ordered it there. I have heard that the person who makes these is having personal problems so they may be in short supply.
Thanks for the reviews. Barry (melting in the tropics)

I, too, had problems with my *first* one, so I sent it back. The second arrived, and it, too, had the same troubles. So I got out my handy-dandy fix-it kit, and voila! Better than brand new. In fact, I have replaced the supplied speaker with a better one, so the sound is slightly louder (for larger crowds).
And, of course, now I can no longer use it...anyone interested? PM me. |

I have one and love it. It is easy to use and well made. It is a little expensive but the reactions you receive are worth the price. I hope this review helps. I would highly recommend this item.
