I have to type quietly because I am at work but...
I just wanted to say Hello to everyone. This site looks great and I hope to visit often. Anyway, I became interested in magic in 1991 at the age of 25 and studied under a professional magician for a couple of years. Unfortunately I burned out from magic in 1996 and pursued other interests. I still kept in touch with my good friend and magic instructor and in May 2001, he called and said he was lecturing on June 1 in Baltimore and invited me to come up and watch. Needless to say, I was so inspired that I jumped back into magic, resumed my lessons and my goal is to become a professional close up magician.

Speaking from experience, if you came back to magic for a second run at it, you are now "truly hooked!" cheers, Peter Marucci showtimecol@aol.com |

Hi Mark:
Welcome aboard! I am sure that you will find a wealth of useful information in this forum. Alexandria, Virginia - a good location for someone interested in sleight-of-hand - there are many top-flight performers nearby to learn from and establish relationships with. Best of luck. Baltimore, D.C., and Pittsburgh are also nearby magical meccas. In fact, you should look into the Deception Convention - Monday Night Magic comes to Pittsburgh (March 15-17). If you're serious about close-up magic, I am certain that you will enjoy Jamy Ian Swiss & Simon Lovell (along with Todd Robbins & several other magical performers). http://www.deceptionsunlimited.com Yours very truly, Eric Starkey |

Oops, sorry all you poor people who don't live in this killer area! Anyway, welcome! 5150, Bird Brain (my real name's Josh)

Thanks everyone for the greetings.
Steve - So far it looks great. So much info. I don't know where to begin. Peter - You are absolutely correct. I love it more than ever. I am glad I took the break because I am more mature and focused now than I was 10 years ago. Eric - Sounds great. I actually have friends in Trafford and anytime I visit we always end up going to Pittsburgh. I may try to get up there for the gathering but I am unsure of my schedule at this point. Josh - I know where Accokeek is. You were not too far from where I work last night. I actually live near Fredericksburg, VA but I was born and raised in Alexandria and I currently work there. Craig - Thanks for the greeting. I am looking forward to being here. Thanks again everyone !

Welcome back to Magic, Mark!
I agree with Peter - if you are in for Round two, you are now ready to go the distance.... I left Magic for many years, but when I returned, I found a whole new appreciation for things like Practice, and effects that didn't really excite me, but thrill an audience. In other words, I think I matured in a few important areas of being a performer. How have your passions or appreciations for the art changed? Do you look at anything differently as a result of your "time out". Hey good to have you join us Friend! BroDavid

Hello again,
To answer Bro David's question, I have matured in all areas of my life over the last 5 years. Since I have returned to magic, I set my goal to be a performer for lay audiences. As a result, I have focused my practice and rehearsals to routines, sleights and presentations that will help me achieve this goal. I have rediscovered (and discovered) some incredible books (primarily Close Up Card Magic by Harry Lorayne and the Card College Series) and have resumed my lessons. I guess I actually know what I want to accomplish in magic. I also want to benefit the art of magic and not detract from it.

Welcome! Glad to have you back. You have found the number 1 magic site on the web. Looking forward to your postings. The only problem is you will want to spend every waking moment here, it is that addictive. I came here in November and have not left since. I have lost a lot of weight since the virtual donuts are not all that nourishing.

I've been reading and posting for a couple of weeks and I would have to say that this is a great website, if not the best.
