I like, & use, turbo stick & amazing jumping arrow - never cared for hot rod, but seeing the opinions of many of you above, beginning to think I should give it a try!
A less well-known paddle I've got is known as 'wonder signals' which has 3 yellow & 3 blue dots on either side and the capacity of the shaft to slide slightly with a gentle shake or gentle rub so that this changes the above into 3 blue on one side and on the other a combo of all three colours (ie one yellow dot/one blue/& one red). Good to use with kids especially and another (better known) is the parrot and bird cage paddle (I've got two which gives you more scope to add extra phases using both paddles and both hands simultaneously.
I'll get hold of a hot rod one of these days having noted the enthusiasm for it in the posts above.

It started with Jim Zee's Hot Rod, c. 1970. Then in 1995, Karrell Fox turned it into Karrell's Kard Schtick. Now (2017) Professor Spellbinder turns it into a real puzzler that can reveal three or four freely chosen cards, one after another. He calls it "Hot Pips Paddles" and it will soon be released in The Wizards' Journal #34. It can even be made large enough to be seen from a stage.
