I don't dig his style, but it was interesting to watch. Oprah was fawning all over him. She called him the best in the world at what he does.

I saw part of it. While my style is different, I can always appreciate another's approach to the art. I don't do escapes and in all honesty they all seem anti-climatic for me. However, the shots of the audience spellbound by the straight jacket routine was amazing to me. I always forget how impressive this is to the layperson. Watching Criss perform is a lesson in showmanship, even if it's not my style.

It is interesting that she said he is the best in the world at what he does. I am still trying to figure out exactly what it is he does.
I did love his new hair style though LOL.

Nothing earth shattering. In fact he did one effect where Oprah knew what was about to take place and she said so. It was the "Smash and stab" routine. She has obviously seen this before.
Magic is a vanishing art.

Funny...
(about the "you're the best at what you do...") It must've hurt Copperfield's ego to hear that... Because she said the exact same thing about him so many years ago... |

I guess we are ALL the best at what we do. Nobody else can be us and do it! Statements like Oprah's are always interesting, because, has she seen everyone else? So, how can she say this? I like comments that are more along the lines of, "You're the best I've seen", etc. I bet it made Criss feel great, I mean, giving that he sucks hardcore and all -Jerome.

I have to admit that whenever I see the "smash & stab" that I actually cringe.
Personally, I think some idiot watching this at home would think of this as a "test of bravery (or should I say STUPIDITY)" rather than a magic trick. Even with Criss Angel's warnings you know some fullhearty idiot is going to try and do this.

Criss was also on Conan O'Brien a couple of nights ago. He did the thread from eye trick right next to Howie Mandel (a known germaphobe). Looked uncomfortable.

My wife saw the Oprah Show, she didn't know much about Chris before it and doesn't know anything about the magic communities feelings towards him. She's not quite your average lay person because she's seen a lot of magic, but she's not a magician.
She hated him. She hated him so much that hours later she remembered the show and said "Do you know who I hate?...Chris Angel". She hated the acting, the facial expressions etc. And she hated the escape routine. She pointed out to me that just before each phase of the escape he started spinning himself around really fast "to cover up what he was doing" her words. I haven't seen the performance it doesn't interest me much, but I thought it was funny that she took such a dislike to him. If her opinion is anything to go by the Copperfield has nothing to worry about. She liked Copperfield a lot. Good luck to Chris, it's great to see any kind of magic prosper. But his style isn't for me. I don't know if I could sit through an actual show. -Rd |

Angel and Oprah. At least he didn't jump up and down on the couch. Don't look at the mic in his ear.
