News around the KIDshow World Kudos KIDabra International member Bill McLaury in the December/January issue of the KIDabra Journal shared a wonderful routine with us in Tommy John's column. Then in February he was featured on the cover of The Linking Ring along with his fascinating and colorful autobiography. Bill is a long time pro who spent many years presenting school shows. (Editor's note: Of special interest to us- he took me as a kid to my first magic convention some 31 years ago and can be probably be blamed for helping to ignite the spark that would bloom in this wonderful thing called KIDabra) Congratulations Bill! A Report from Barry Mitchell on the Opening of Terry Evanswood's New Theatre. The First Big Night April 4, 2007 Terry Evanswood has opened the show at his new theater in Pigeon Forge, TN. I've had the honor of working with and helping Terry for over 10 years now and I was excited to see this milestone arrive. We were working on props, doing last minute rehearsals, and mopping the stage up to the absolute last minute before the doors opened for the audience. And what an audience. First night, sold out! So many small issues had been going wrong with props, the theater sign, and just little stuff that it was both stressful and exciting behind the scenes. But when the curtain went up it was all Terry and the cast. A new cast member, Natasha from Russia, joined Terry for her first show debut. She did a great job as did the whole cast. I sat in the balcony and videotaped the show with a handheld video camera, not a professional job but a nice record of the show. Afterward, I walked around like a crack reporter getting short interviews from some of Terry's friends. As you would suspect, people love this guy. And I'm proud to say, I love him too. Knowing all the stress that went on before the curtain opened I can say it was one of the casts greatest performances. Although this was not the official grand opening night which will be in May, it was an incredible first night. Congratulations Terry. Read the story of how the theater came to be in the current issue of the Journal. Info coming soon on special ticket pricing for KIDabra International members attending Terry's show during conference week. *************************************************************************************************** 7.The John Cooper Fund: A friend in need Fellow KIDshow performer and marketing guru, John Cooper needs our help. John is widely known in the magic and speaking community for his creative approach to marketing and staying busy in the family entertainment business. John is also a great friend to KIDabra folks through his lecture appearances, reviews and coaching. For many years John has suffered from Congestive Heart Failure (a degenerative condition where the heart cannot pump enough blood to the other organs). Last year he had a pacemaker installed to help with the condition. John and his wife Cathy are self employed - full time entertainers. Due to John's condition they cannot get health insurance unless they pay astronomical premiums (which still wouldn't cover his 'preexisting condition). The pacemaker procedure was quite a financial blow, but unfortunately there's more. A few weeks ago he found out that he will have to undergo open heart surgery to repair 2 leaking valves among other things. As you can imagine this is going to add considerably to their financial burden. He will be out of work for six to eight weeks. The procedures will cost well in excess of $100,000. Here's how we can help. We've set up an account if you would like to make a donation to help cover his living expenses during recuperation while he and Cathy are dealing with the day to day. NO AMOUNT IS TOO SMALL!! Here's how you can contribute. • You can mail a check, made payable to "The John Cooper Fund," to: John Cooper Fund PO Box 437 Anderson, SC 29622-0437 USA • If you wish to wire a contribution into this account you can do so by calling Scott at Regions Bank in Anderson, SC at 864-231-2950. He can help you with this type of transaction. If you have any questions please call Tim Sonefelt at 864-231-8933 or Scott at Regions Bank at 864-231-2950. Thanks for your prayers, thoughts and contributions. *************************************************************************************************** 8.
