"Intelligent Spectators" is always the case in some places, daffy... Smile

Imo, just because we don't or won't perform something, don't put down those who do it... It is just entertainment in the end.

If you're talking about possible explanations from funny props, I say the funny title of "Magician" is already a possible explanation... That in itself shows clearly that you're using some form of guile to achieve your effects.

If you want the Audience nowadays to think you are "real", I say don't call yourself a "Magician"...

Then go bend some spoons and talk to their dead relatives. Smile

When I say props I am referring to mostly the garish stuff that looks like it came from the 1800's. You know, boxes painted (BADLY) with stars and moons and looks like it might have come out of someones garage homemade. I didn't mean to give the impression that all props are bad. Just a certain section of them.

Just the ones that look like junk.

Sorry for the confusion.

I have seen Michael Finney do pretty well with it as well as the video Pop just posted.

Just goes to prove once more -- it's not the trick itself, it's how you perform it.

Hey! I first saw Harry Blackstone (pere) do the 6CR 70 years ago. (He used the "glide". --"efficient" but, not that "graceful"!) The dealers always knew where Harry had just finished performing. --By the orders for 6CR, and CLIPPO.

Once again, you have made the point! --The PERFORMER is more important than the PROP! Or, "It aint WHAT ya do, it's HOW ya do it!"

Tommy Tucker must be smiling! "Senator" Crandall, ditto.

Many years ago, Jay Marshall and I were standing in the wings watching De Yip Loo do the KUMA tubes. Jay, with a tear in his eye, said, "Loo is the absolute master of that! NO ONE ELSE should be ALLOWED to present the KUMA tubes!" I had wet eyes, too.

IMO, no one else (with the possible exception of Mike Finney) should be ALLOWED to do the 6CR!

I try not to do the ones I can't do well but like light bulbs they all put up resistance.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

If I am doing a kid's show, or a show where kids are likely in attendance, I will not do anything with fire, guns, swords or knives...or anything with any sexual connotations.

With a strictly adult audience I do a pg-13 nightclub style act...and omit anything that is "proppy"
. I like to perform this strictly out of my briefcase.

Flexibility and sensibility in presentation seem to be the key to success.
Tailoring your show to your audience is necessary.

With a PG show how far do you go with innuendo and so on?

Any "dirty stuff" is in the minds of the spectators. I simply lead them there. As an example, two of the effects that I perform during the show are "Wayne's Exchange" and "Three Ropes and a Thousand Laughs". Both played well, and the audience loved them.

I try to adapt the routines instead of strictly following them as scripted. Since you never knopw WHAT is going to come out of the volunteer's mouth, the ability to ad-lib is key.
