Darwin,
I just thought of one last question as I grabbed my relatively worn deck to run through a few shuffles and cuts while watching TV. I have a habit of keeping worn decks for practice, well after they have been good and broke in and have become at least slightly worn. Very rarely breaking open a new pack of cards. Do you have any thoughts or advice as to whether this is a positive thing for versatility, or can it have any negative effects on the results of practice and performance. Thanks, Steve |

Steve:
The short answer is that you should practice with the type of deck you perform with. If you usually perform with a worn deck, you should practice with a worn deck. If you usually perform with a new deck, you should practice with a new deck. In my own practice sessions, I use an idea I first encountered in The Phantom of the Card Table. I practice every move with both a new deck and an old deck. That way, whatever deck I may encounter in performance, I’ll feel comfortable with it. Sincerely, Darwin Ortiz |
