Just checking out episode one of season three. This first episode looks like a parody of all the absurd, over-the-top nonsense from the other two seasons. Banachek, Johnny Thompson and Angel's staff falling all over themselves to heap praise on their meal ticket? Check! Dire warnings of the "suicidal" nature of a stunt that was taped without incident months ago? Check! Angel waxing poetic about his family? Check! Illusions taped in front of "real spectators" who wouldn't have believed it if they weren't there? Check! More video effects (old film, posterization, black and white, blurs, wipes, split screens, quick cuts, color alterations, camera vibration) in any 30 seconds than in a whole day of watching MTV? Check! Angel mugging, pointing at and eating the camera lense to rockin' guitar noise? Check! Great magic performed without benefit television enchancement?
Uhm. Well. Maybe next episode. |

I don't care what anybody thinks of him or his magic. I just enjoyed the show. And most of all I enjoyed watching it with my family. I am surprised it has been this long before anyone dogged his show.

Johnny Thompson doesn't need a meal ticket, and there would be no Criss Angel without Johnny who has been his promoter and behind the scenes man all along. I agree the levitations are getting pretty hokey, but that is one of the most impressive illusions in magic and most visual, and TV is a visual media. The whole idea was to get him a major LV contract and create an audience for it, which is what has happened.

Criss is a nice guy, but I wish he would hire a script writer.

He is indeed a nice guy. I like him. I am sure that his consultants are really great at what they do, but they should keep a lower profile. It gets annoying after a while. I guess that you must do something to fill up 30 minutes a week of TV. After all the actual illusions are only so long. Enjoy it, because I think this will be the last season of Mindfreak. I wish him well with Cirque du Soleil. I hope to catch it sometime,.

Actually, We flew Jay Sankey in for 2 days and Jay created 40 effects for us on Mindfreak and we used around 12 of them. Jay is a great thinker, and a greater guy.
I hope you enjoy season 3...glad to be home after 6 months in Vegas. all he best Gerard- (Mindfreak consultant)

Always a good idea to do tricks on TV so you can then sell and market them. Dosn't cheapen the art at all.
Funny though, I thought Criss was supposed to be original. Is selling your stuff like that original?

I did like some of the basic magic stuff! I'd rather have him sell the stuff rather than have Johnny Thompson "Give" it away!

Just watched this escape from the Van O' Dynamite. I wouldn't think that a guy who can levitate "totally impromptu" and "with nothing above me" would ever have to worry about making a hard landing and getting hurt.

Universal hasn't hired ANYONE for the Three Shell Game since the EXPOSURE. That's at least a $1200 personal loss this year. Those who say TV exposure doesn't hurt, need to walk a mile in my shoes
I will boycott his appearance here at Daytona and so will my friends.

Slim, I would boycott it simply out of disinterest.
That is cruddy to hear about the loss. What I mean is I did NOT think that would happen.

My main income is NOT magic related, so the cash that I make actually DOING Magic is a lot less than most. So when I lose a little, it seems like a lot more, if you know what I mean?
