You may even ask yourself what do they mean by the Battle of the Titans....isn't that a movie with Sparticus or one of those mideavial guys and do I need to be packin a weapon? This mega event is still in planning stage but it is going to be very different from any convention.
An overview of the event would look like this ... * International Magicians Gala Show * Asia Magicians Gala Show * Cups and Balls Gala Show * Magic competition * Magic lectures * Magic bootcamp * Magic garage sale * Dealers exhibition * etc The theme of the event is - "Clash of the Magic Titans: The Best of the Best from The West Battle with the Giants from the East" This is going to be exciting. Even the gala show would show the "East vs West" concept. The Cups and Balls Gala show would highlight cup workers with 'never-before-seen unique routines'. And they will surface from Russia, Japan, China, diferent parts of Europe, India, USA, etc. You will basically see and witness the whole works of the cups and balls category including chop cups, 1 cup, 2 cups, 3 cups, Indian cups, bowls, ceramic cups and bowls, unique cover containers, etc. You would normally see finale of cups routine ending with a large ball but from the east a full bowl of rice is poured out as a finale (and this is done close-up) Top hidden talents from Asia can be seen highlighting their very unique acts at the Asia Magic Gala Nite. This event will show the different traditional and cultural differences in magic performances. Different versions of face and mask manipulation will be highlighted too - the true art of "Bian Lian" from China. I would appreciate all kinds of support to make this event a successful and memorable one. My target is to bring in at least 5,000 participants and performers from at least 20 countries. David Mann, representing Precision Magic, will be showcasing his latest innovations in magic and he will also be lecturing at the lectures and coaching at the magic bootcamp, in addition to perfoming and being one of the honorable judges for the competition. Kyle Peron will also be lecturing at the bootcamp and lectures on 'bringing out the creative side of you in magic' (how to think outside the box and develop extremely unique and powerful magic acts). In addition he is also one of the honorable judges for the competition. Asia's hidden magic talents will also be showcasing and revealing their know-hows. I will be highlighting more details later. Thanks for the interest. Please PM me for further discussion on participating on this event. |

Everyone should get a free Convertible Hot Rod as a convention souvenir. (that way we'll have something to throw at the bad acts).

So this convention takes place in Malaysia? 'cause, while this convo sounds very interesting, a flight for me into Kuala Lumpur is about $2500... so, hate to say I won't be there.

I do believe that participation in this convention might be limited because of the sheer cost, and distance involved. But, I think if your a serious Magician and are looking for something completely different than the same old; sameold then this may be the event for you. Heck I have to save up the money myself!

Yes, line up of the performers for the Gala Shows (Intl and Asia)is really encouraging. The Cups and Balls Gala performers line up is rather surprising as we now have cultural themes such as Western and Eastern historical acts that are not easily accessible in public performances.
The website is currently under construction. We hope to get the site out asap. Meanwhile stay tuned here for more insider news. This is one event that will make history in magic conventions. |

Hi James
Looks like you have been busy in the Magic Café. Kinda missing in the MMF forum lately I see. Where have you been performing out-of-town? Let me know and I would love to see your show now. I am back in Malaysia and am scheduled to be around till the end of the year. It has been way too long since I have seen you perform. A mega-convention in Malaysia-eh? Now that is interesting. Just based on my years of experience creating, managing and producing events and shows (both magic-themed and otherwise, in Malaysia and abroad), I am wondering about the reality of making that happen. Lot of people have come out and said this that and the other about magic-based conventions, competitions, TV specials, etc...but mostly it has been a lot of hot-air and the one group that tried recently failed miserably. Sure they console themselves by saying that it was successful but really, when compared to the ones held internationally, it was pathetic at best, in its execution. The reality of it is that the magic market here in Malaysia is still in its infancy stages. We do not have the critical mass to make these type of events profitable, much less break-even, from a business stand-point. This is not even considering the organisational capabilities of executing a professionally produced stage show... and when I say that, I am comparing it against international standards - since that is what your are talking about. Folks like the Genting group have the $$$ resources to make something like this happen (like the Genting International Magic Festival) and not really worry about the profits. Their main aim is to create interesting events throughout the year on their marketing calendar and try to maximise media publicity and awareness. Their $$$ profits are really coming from the casinos. I sincerely hope it is not another Malaysian airy-fairy wishful thinking project but that it really does come to fruition. It would be great if it does but James, my question - Is this for real??? Looking forward to viewing your website as well. |
