Nice collection! The display looks very good. When I first started collecting, I looked everywhere for cabinets. I finally found two different ones at a local furniture store. Check out any big furniture stores in your area that have a section for discontinued furniture or returns. You will find what you need, eventually. Bombay House isn't a bad place to look.

James, Floyd,
Thanks for sharing, I love seeing what books people have too! I was just wondering,if everyone who posted in this thread pooled their cups, could they match the Mighty Bill Palmer??? Bri |

Tom,
Those are fantastic looking traditionals. I love the contrast with the purple top too, it really goes well with the copper. Bri Posted: Mar 14, 2009 1:43pm Wow this thread has really grown since Todd first started it. I thought I should actually take the time to photograph my cups and post. http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv158......elot.jpg http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv158......lot3.jpg |

That looks like a set of Tannen's Stubby cups about the second row. I've always liked those cups.

Oh, I forgot to add the Phoenix cups but you all know what they look like anyway.
Bill, the cups on the second row, do you mean the first copper ones from the left, it might be a bad angle? Bri Posted: Mar 14, 2009 1:55pm As a side not, you can clearly see how I "dished" the saddles on the Morrisey's as they were not deep enough for my liking. It was done with a nylon form so as not to damae the cups. Not perfect but it works for me Those were my first ever "real cups" |

Bri,

Searching is part of the joy of collecting I suppose. Thanks to everyone for the nice comments... greatly appreciated. Now I have my eye on a couple of other sets. I swear there should be a support group for this addiction! Thanks again, DC

As a follow-up to my prior post, in another thread, Bill spills the beans and admits that he has over 1,000 cups (sets?), to-wit:

Of course an understanding wife.
Rumor has it that Bill got her started collecting used Avon bottles and convinced her that her collection was just as valuable and productive as his C&B items. He also convinced her that the cash outlay was roughly the same or that the Avon bottles might be slightly higher in cost and value but that "she was worth it" and that "he'd understand". What a guy!! Actually, I think that in a different thread Bill once mentioned that he collects C&Bs and she collects jewelry. (grin)

If not the world's most understanding wife, she is pretty close to it.
Sometimes people ask how I got my wife to allow me to have this big cup collection. Well, I inherited my father's harpsichord when he passed away. You can see some photos of it at http://www.bigredharpsichord.com . This thing is about 3 meters long. I told my wife that we needed a stuffed moose head to hang on the wall over the harpsichord. She said "Like H*LL we do!" So I asked her if I could collect cups and balls. She asked what they looked like, so I told her that they were made of metal, they were shiny and that they didn't take up much room. So she said that I could. Then she saw what a set of Sherwoods costs. So she started buying jewelry. One day, I told her that you can tell a woman's age by counting her rings. So she stopped buying rings. Now she buys necklaces and bracelets. But she's worth it!

Floyd, Tom, Bri …. Thanks for posting the pictures, great Cups all of them.
Bill…. All your new Cups at the Museum are fantastic, again thanks for making it available to us! I will post new pictures sometime this weekend…. I have to get some other projects done around the house first (it is the first nice day in a long time; I am now paying the price for saying “I’ll get to it as soon as the weather turns.”). Thank you all, I so enjoy seeing all the Cups. Best wishes, Bruce |
