Magician’s Assistant
Job Overview Prior to Show: Devise choreography Hold rehearsals for all dancers and assistants Edit music Assist magician in light cue timing Block and stage movement during tricks Available for early morning, afternoon, or evening rehearsals all week. Assist in devising the show line-up Provide motivation for the dancers and magician – both physically and mentally Perfect timing for all tricks Demonstrate a willingness to learn Strive for teamwork Strive for success Create costume designs Obtain costumes and distribute throughout the cast Run personal errands for the magician as needed Committed to perfection – practice makes perfect! During the Show: Leading Lady Assistant to the Magician Dance captain/choreographer Succeed at making all illusions reveal Costume changes with ease and perfection Hold together the cast and crew through crisis or turmoil with professionalism Supplies motivation and support for the magician, dancers, and crew Never reveals gimmicks Professional Make-up artistry & Skills Strive for teamwork Maintains high self-esteem, positive attitude and professionalism at all times Knows how to handle problems calmly and objectively. If a problem were to arise, can continue performing regardless. The show must go on. (Unless flashing is apparent) Demonstrates amazing timing during performances and rehearsals Completely aware of sightlines. Media technician: pc, music, slide show photos, troubleshooting for projector/live switcher Able to assist, successfully with audience volunteers Able to deter the audience away from the gimmicks Useful knowledge of theatrical tools in order to deter focus Assists backstage when not needed on stage Extra pair of eyes for the magician Prepares props, costumes, and set pieces Brings props openly and secretly to the magician Interacts successfully with the magician Maintains eye contact with the magician Creates great chemistry with the magician Shows dedication to the show and magician Post Show Duties: Video editor Created press information Booked interviews with potential presenters Obtained two agents Revised television proposal for networks such as VH1, MTV, SPIKE, and more. Assisted in future show line-up Assisted in ideas for future illusions Ran personal errands for magic business Made magic one of my careers Edited music for FISM act Practiced and critiqued magician in act for countless hours and days Booked flights Assisted in costuming for competition Seamstress Assisted in the building of the act table and other various portions of the act. Maintained support and motivation for the magician.
