Its not really about getting the biggest bang for your buck. You might have to do some searching before you compile effects into a performance. It is probably the best idea to take effects from many different ebooks and then use your favorites in your show, or even create numerous shows out of all of the effects.

I am the owner of Lybrary and would be very keen to understand your difficulties because I don't remember that you wrote directly to us. I am here to help as many can attest. BTW, there is no other magic ebook retailer/publisher that comes even remotely close to the breadth and depth of ebooks Lybrary offers. We have currently more than 500 magic ebooks including many classics reaching back to the earliest days as well as many of the hottest and newest releases. And of course, all of our material is licensed or we bought the copyrights. No illegal contents at Lybrary.com. At other stores you might find a dozen or two ebooks hidden among the hundreds of other products offered. Lybrary.com is exclusively focusing and concentrating on ebooks and we make sure that we know everything there is to know about ebooks. To my knowledge we are also the only magic ebook retailer who offers permanent storage of your purchased ebooks on our server. Should you loose or delete your ebooks you can always login to your account and re-download them. And we are working on other valuable features and services which will help you get more out of your ebook purchases.

On the coin forum, the coin guys have a load of them. Most are really nice ebooks with some great work. Off the top of my head, Eric Jones, Dan Watkins, Kanoi Harbottle, Justin Miller and Rannie Raymundo's great works on the http://www.VinnyMarini.com website. All have some excellent ebooks at great values. And there are many others if you like coins, and of course you should as you all have been carrying them around in your pockets for years. How about trying some of these coin magic ebooks and putting them to some amazingly creative use. -MB

I agree with shadow_echo on lybrary.com I got ripped by them also on public domain e-books I found elsewhere for a fraction of the cost. Google books has a lot and so does the universal library. You can also check ebay. don't waste your time and money$$$ at lybrary.com

Alexvon,
'ripped' is a pretty strong word. First, what you get at Google and others is a simple scan and raw OCR. We do proof read and error correct the OCR which results in a much cleaner and much more accurate final product. The file sizes are also much smaller and our PDFs can be loaded on PDAs. If you try that with simply scanned ebooks ala Google then you will not be able to do that. Second, the selection that you find in any open online library is nothing like what Lybrary can offer. Yes, you might find some Houdini books and a few others but try to find The Sphinx or Mahatma or dozens of other great classics. Third, the majority of our 500 magic ebooks are not public domain and many are exclusive to Lybrary.com because we bought or licensed the exclusive rights. Fourth, and this is the most important point I want to make, Lybrary is part of the magic community and we care about magic, the authors and the readers in a way Google or any other general library will never be able to. I have personally helped a number of magic authors financially through difficult times. Try that with Google. I am compensating authors and their families beyond what the copyright law stipulates. Lybrary.com has made gifts to young magicians without the means to buy good books, etc. So yes, you might find one or the other ebook cheaper or for free at some other website, but buying it from Lybrary for a few bucks will indirectly support and fund your magic colleagues as well as will contribute that more great magic contents will be published. BTW, since this is your first post here at the forum it is pretty obvious that you are pursuing a very different agenda. You don't even have the guts to state your name and are hiding behind a handle. Why should anybody believe what you have written? I bet you did not buy at Lybrary before. You are just making this up to serve your agenda. And shadow_echo has not in any way specified what his problem with us was. That pretty much tells the story. Best, Chris....

Don't know what agenda you are talking about but I purchased a couple of ebooks a copule of years ago that were not very cleaned up as you state which lead me to beleive you got somewhere else. I also got these same books for free and/or very cheap elsewhere and they were much better in quality. all I see you do on this site is pander for your website to get more money. as shadow_echo also had issues with your site it's not just me. and just how are you part of the "magic community" other than selling magic books. so you sell magic books and post a couple of hundred times here and "poof" you are in the "magic community"! what a bunch of malarkey. I didn't post here to pick a fight or have an agenda of any sort. I was just responding to shadow_echos post and my experience. also what is up with this real name crud. I see most everyone posting uses a "handle". what specifically is your problem. cant handle any Critisism?

Just for the record...
I've purchased quite a good number of eBooks and audio files from Lybrary.com and I've always found the customer service, the quality of the product and the range of products to be excellent. Cheers Billy PS - This aint my first post and I'm using my name. |

Alexvon, I do encourage feedback be it positive or negative. Certainly I can handle criticism and invite it as long as it is constructive. If you email me your name I can check when and what you purchased. You are very vague. You don't say what you purchased, when you purchased and who you are. Neither do you say where else you got a supposedly 'better' version. If you provide the details I am happy to follow up compare and learn what we can improve. But as I said I think you are a troll and have never bought from Lybrary.com.
But let me come to the 'community part' because that shows that you don't know a whole lot. For starters I do magic for more than 20 years. I am member of the SAM, founding member of the first Austrian SAM assembly and am member of another local club in Austria. I have written for magic magazines and one of my effects has been published in Genii a while ago. I have invented and marketed a trick called the ultimate magic square which many big name magicians have praised. Lybrary.com was the first magic ebook publisher and retailer and we are doing this for more than 7 years. I have attended and we still attend magic conventions throughout the world from FISM to small local workshops. I personally know many respected and well known magicians and some I can even call friends. Just look at the list of names of authors who are working with Lybrary.com. But most importantly the vast majority of our customers appreciate the work we do in preserving magic literature. As I wrote we are doing this for more than 7 years and we are preserving publications Google will never know even existed. We do this primarily because we love magic not to make a quick buck. I have converted books purely for scholarly interest or purely for preservation purposes. It is pretty safe to say that many in the magic community know Lybrary.com and appreciate what we are doing. Of course it is impossible to please everybody, but you seem to have a different agenda. Say who you are, don't be vague on what you purchased and what the particular issues or points of improvement are and I will take your criticism seriously. Best, Chris....

Having been a customer of lybrary.com for many years, I can say that every criticism offered by alexvon and shadow_echo are total and utter nonsense. There are, to my mind,no better resources in the magic community for the best literature in the field at a fair price in an easy to use format. I cannot believe that either of these gentlemen, a term I use very loosely, have ever done business with lybrary.com.
Returning to the thread's topic, let me add my agreement with Jim Callahan, a wonderful human being as well as a very good mentalist, that the Intelligent Redesign package is a very, very good investment. mevproshop.com rules! |

Biggest bang for your buck? I can't believe nobody has mentioned The Learned Pig collection.
http://thelearnedpig.com.pa/more01.html Where else can you get dozens of classic books for the price of two or three printed volumes? Also, don't forget their website where several classic books are free, (to which I donated a book, Entertaining by Magic, by Herman Pallme). http://www.thelearnedpig.com.pa That said, I do plan on buying some ebooks from Lybrary.com as some of their offerings are VERY enticing!!! Both sites are performing a valuable public service. |

Lybrary.com is a 100% honest place run by a person with impeccable integrity. If you think I am just kissing up check my other posts when I don't like something.
This criticism of Lybrary.com is so false as to be slanderous. |

I have also had very good experience and customer service with lybrary.com. I purchased a CD-rom from them, did not get around t watching it for several mos. and then found that it appeared to be damaged (I had difficulty accessing the info on the disc). I informed them by e-mail and had a new copy in my hands within a week.
