OK a popular convincer is to have a person make an OK sign while giving the verbal instruction to place it on the chin while a contracdictory visual suggestion is given as the performer places it on the cheek.
Does anyone know th orgin of this? Was it publish by McGill (or others)... I am outta town and don;t have my library to look at so any help on the history of this would be appreciated. Also, who have you seen use this on stage?

I'm not sure of the origin of this test, either. I first saw it done by Susan Rosen, a good friend of mine, a her show at Fright Fest at Six Flags in Gurnee, IL, a number of years ago, but I also recall seeing it done at, I believe, done by Norma Barretta at the 1st World Congress on NeuroLinguistic Programming in Dearborn, MI, back in the mid-70's.
It's a very impressive demonstration of what's called a visual lead system. Those who lead from the verbal system always do it right, following the verbal cues, as opposed to the visual one. In a one-on-one situation, this can really help you in the early stages of an induction in figuring out how to match language patterns with someone, too. If they follow the visual cue, use visual words, if they follow the auditory lead, use auditory language patterns to lead them into state. That's a bit oversimplified, but it does work in a high number of situations... Lee Darrow, C.H.

This has been attributed by one hypnotist directly to Mesmer. Ormond Mcgill also wrote about it, as has Jerry Valley. Any other leads? I'd like to find the origniation... Someone was kind enough to PM these citations to me. Anone able to confirm Mesmer as a source for it?
