Awesome effect I practiced clo***ng all night last night and then tried it out for a co-woker today who happens to be another magician (a very good magician)with his deck and I fooled him real bad. My speed still needs work but this is a keeper. Very clever impromptu miracle

I think the real credit should be given the the brilliant Paul Cummins for his routine Tapalac (PV does mention PC in the manuscript). This version by Paul Vigil is only slightly different from Cummins'. Personally I think he has a liberty selling this routine as his own, with only a slight change in procedure. My handling of Tapalac is slightly modified from the original but I wouldn't have the audacity to publish and sell it as an improvement. Shame on you PV!! It is a shame that magicians are crediting PV with this awesome trick and not PC and I wanted to set the record straight!

In all fairness to Vigil, as a personal friend I know for a fact that he went out of his way to get an okay on this from Cummins. He let Cummins know that we was either going to put it in a manuscript or maybe even in some form of DVD. He got the blessing that he needed before he ever started working on the project.

I really like this effect as well! As soon as I get everything down pat, I will try it out. It's definitely worth buying.

Some people are too quick to believe the worst in others.

It is not an assumption of thinking the worst....I just think that the changes made by Paul Vigl are minimal from Paul Cummins' original Tapalac. I am amazed that PC conceded and consented to PV re-marketing HIS trick!
People on here seem to be saying that PV is a genius and I think that praise is misguided in THIS instance! No doubt that it is a fantastic trick - it always was!! |

You're going to think I'm nuts when you first read this, but hear me out.
This is a simple system using your right big toe (the captain) that I learned years ago as a side-tracking method to track aces in casino blackjack, as part of a multi-level card-counting system. You can actually use either foot for this, but we'll use the right foot to simplify the explanation. Lift your right big toe (point it upwards a bit) and move it slightly to the right, so it's essentially resting on top of the toe next to it (the co-captain). Let's call that "move #1". Now, slide your big toe off the other one so it is back to it's natural (flat) position. We'll call that "move #2". What does this have to do with clocking? Let's assume you are (base-10) clocking the red cards. When you get to a red face card, do "move #1". When you get to the next red face card, do "move #2". Continue this sequence until you are finished clocking the cards. If you end up with your toe lifted, that means there are only 5 red face cards in the deck (one was removed by the spectator). If you end up with your toe flat, all the red face cards are in the deck. Therefore, you eliminate the problem of not knowing if the missing card is (for example) a red 2 or a red queen. This makes the second run-through just as fast as it would be if you were looking for the missing red 7. Try it and you'll see how easy it really is. Brett
We magicians are of a unique lot. We aspire to deceive. We are liars. We are cheats. We are con artists. We can not be trusted. But we mean well.

Nice!
Since I have no dexterity in my toes - I just tried that with just toe lifting up and down - and it works, by Jove! Thanks!

Sounds like a real "toe tapper". Now if you can tie it into a cool tune like, "Clocks"...?

Hi folks,
Just got Diplopia and really digging it. This is a very well thought out impromptu thought of card effect and I love the way it is structured. Also the clarity of writing is outstanding and very effective for study. Brett, Really like that idea and thanks for sharing, Steve |

I believe Mike Powers generously gave the explanation to doing it with base -13 and it works faster and better than -10. The explanation post is somewhere on the Café.

As if this routine needs any more endorsements to convince potential buyers of the gem that it is...
Still, I just have to add my two cents. Diplopia is brilliant! This is an absolute jaw-dropper. David Regal's endorsement on the latest issue of Reel Magic Quarterly will likely help it to find a greater audience, and deservedly so. Great stuff!! |

Diplopia is wonderful.
I've ordered several ebooks over the last couple of months and, while almost all of them are great, Diplopia DELIVERS. Jaw dropping impromptu effect that Mr. Vigil steps you through with great clarity, plus additional relevant exposition. Exactly what I hope for in ebooks. ECU |
