Hi guys,
I recently bought Tony Marks-Aristocrat of Deception. It is a fantastic book, in a sense that it shows how creative, determined and talented is Tony Marks on stage. By mere reading his act already blew me away. The book also focused on performing in the real world, especially nightclubs, which is around the 1940s and 1950s, but I think it is still very much relevant in today. However, the drawings and description of Tony Marks' encore effect-floating rabbit (Asrah form) was quite vague, and difficult to follow(perhaps my magic knowledge is limited). Thus, I'd like to ask if there is a mini Asrah I can buy or even detailed plans for me to build. I hope you guys can help me with this. Any comments and suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

I agree with you that Tony Marks act was a good one. I actually got to see Tony in performance in the 1960’s. He wasn’t very approachable after his show. That is, he packed up his act and moved on to his next venue and didn’t have much time to talk to a young magician.
His floating rabbit gimmick was simplicity in itself. Look at the drawings in the book again. What you see is what he had! The weight of the foulard/cloth drape caused the ends of the plastic cross pieces to bend downward giving the cloth a rounded or bundle shape. It was not a complex form and actually didn’t look like a rabbit. However, it did the job of creating the illusion that it was a rabbit covered with a cloth and floating. It was a very brief bit. The rabbit covered, the rabbit levitated and Tony walked to the front and center of the performing area with the cloth shape moving up and down and side to side slightly, then “Poof!” he whisked the cloth away and the rabbit was vanished. Try building the gimmick, as shown in the book, and I think you will be well pleased with the effect. I have one that is made out of plastic strips cut from plastic milk cartons. It works. I don’t use the collapsing cane/wand idea for the zombie like floating device. I use a simpler set-up. I hope this helps a little.

Is Tony Macks flotation cleaner or more effecient then the Mini Asrah? CTW, the Mini only floats a doll, while what is being described here is a rabbit.
Thanks, Tod

Yes, "Aristocrat of Deception" is a good book. I just received mine today. I am going to try Tony Marks and Harry Murphy's method.
