Ok guys, now for the famous 'Magic Café best book of 2007'. Again this year will be run by myself and Peo Olsson, strict rules apply this year. Last years winner was Mike Power's 'Power Plays'. Good luck to this years book entries, we will include a list of all the books released this year, if any are added, I will add them to this post. Be careful with your votes...no changing your mind 10 times like some did last year! Any questions, PM me. So...here are the rules...
1. Only members of the Café may vote.
2. You have only one vote to use.
3. Once you have used your vote, you can't change your mind. Use your vote carefully.
4. A list of books to choose from will be used. The list will change as long new books arrive during the year.
5. No E-books or reprints can be voted for.
6. You can only vote for ONE book.
7. A member of the Café, who also is an author of a book, may also vote, but not on his own book(s).
8. The votings will start October the 1st and end December 31th (three months).
And here are the entrants:
Session/547 By Josh Jay & Joel Givens (one book)
Cloudbusting by Devin Knight & Jerome Finley
Best of Friends vol 3 by Harry Lorayne
Maurice Fogel: In Search of the Sensational by Chris Woodward & Richard Mark

Wisdom of Solomon by David Solomon/Jeff Siegfried
The section on Don May is exceptional and a must read. It is also a glimpse into David Solomon's studenthood with Marlo and his spanish magic influences. It is simply a wonderful book.

For me it's between Session and BOF. I'm going to have to go with Best of Friends 3. Both are must reads though-get them if you haven't already!

Hoooooold on. How is it The Essential Stewart James isn't on the list but what is a pamphlet, Thought Of Card Across Project, is? I'm not saying there is anything wrong with it by 12 pages does not a book make.

Magicsanta, we tried to compile a list of all the books we knew had come out this year, we know we might have missed one or two, and state in the first post to let us know and we will add. As for 'Thought of Cards Across', I agree with you, and I don't expect it to get one vote. That was a book a couple people came to me and said they really enjoyed and why wasn't it on the list, so it was added. I don't myself, even as the author, consider it a book worthy of its place amongst the books named around it

There are some impressive books on the list (especially HANDCRAFTED and CARDINI) but I've got to go with SESSIONS (Givens/Jay) for fun, innovation, production, variety, and the killer content.

So, I guess the only prudent thing to do is to not vote until 11:59 PM on December 31st.

A wise and prudent decision, Peo.
BTW, will long awaited 2007 reprints of OOP books be eligible for "Best Book" consideration? Will it matter how long any such book has been OOP? Also, are people able to submit (or suggest) their own candidate(s) for inclusion on the list?

I vote for Thought of Cards Across Project by Christopher Williams because, dang it, if he used a size 70 font it would be as long as the other books.

Is that your vote Magicsanta? I see it more as a manuscript than a book, but if that is your choice

I don't believe a re-print is fair to go against the books listed. Re-prints are books which are high enough in demand to warrant a re-print, so are obviously going to be popular. I feel they would have an unfair advantage...anyone else agree? Or is it just me?

A reprint isn't a new book, as far as content goes, so it shouldn't be counted among the best of 2007.
