I am learning how to produce a glass of water from a silk. I would like to get an opinion on the best type of "clip" to hold the load and the best kind of cover for the mouth of the glass.

Use the top half of a balloon for the cover of the glass. Depending on the shape of the glass you can use a b*** clip or a s*** clip that you can get from Abbott's Magic.

I never did like clips, I would just use one of my pockets or had a pocket made in my tails.

If you have a chance, get some footage of Silvano, his act is amazing. He produces glass after glass of liquid.

John Carney does a nice glass-of-liquid production as the finale to his handling of Andrus's "Zone Zero". It looks to me like he may use something like the device sold by Mikame. It can be seen on the video: "Up Close & Far Away".

Never having done it, I would probably go for the pocket rather than a clip (Murphy's law is more than an obscure concept to me), and the balloon is a good idea for keeping the liquid in. Another is to wedge a rubber ball into the mouth of the glass.

eddiekap,
This Silvano, where did you get the footage of him? Is it available anywhere you know of? Thanks. Leon

Hi
Davenports do the best clip I have seen. It is really strong, it holds the glass very well, it's not wobbling around; it's there secure plus the price has to be the best bit at... $2.50, you cant go wrong. Luke
We're 106 miles from Chicago, we have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses

What do these clips do? How do they hold the glass? Do you need to cover it when they are in these clips?
thanks, Leon

If you are looking for Silvano footage, I believe that Steven's Magic Emporium carries the tape.
Cheers!

Salvano's Tape is very good, but he doesn't reveal how the productions are done. I was told that Owen's Magic constructed Salvano's equipment, but they aren't making any more as the secret is Salvano's.

It doesn’t require a clip (or any special device) to produce a glass of fluid. In fact, the easiest method does not require anything special at all. A glass of fluid, a belt or pocket, a jacket, and a handkerchief is all that is required. As mentioned above, stick the glass of fluid in your belt, covered by your jacket, or in your jacket pocket; steal it under the cover of the handkerchief and viola, a production of a glass of liquid.
Good covers can be easily homemade from any number of readily available items found in most homes. One of the easiest productions you will ever do employs a “Devils Hank”. Simply put the covered class into the hank and then handle the hank as if it was a simple square of cloth. Gather the four corners and produce the glass. These of course address only body steals away from all tables and props. Add a prop or a table or two and you can produce a whole tray of full glasses! I have even made a prop bottle that I can produce (from some silks) and from it produce two stemmed wine glasses, then pour a bit of wine (colored water) into each glass from the bottle (if you only knew how technically easy this little routine is!). I have never used a commercially made clip for a glass production. They are simply too low tech and easy to build to worry about buying one. (Note: For those of you who read this post earlier and seem to remember a ton of stuff no longer mentioned, your memory is intact! I edited the post to cut out a number of hints, tips, and handling ideas. Upon rereading it, I decided that I had given too much away for a public forum, sorry folks!).

I agree with Harry Murphy. Why make things hard?
Nothing beats the methods that were mentioned in the above post. You can even produce a bottle if you really wanted to. Work on the blocking (body movements) and you would be surprised what a person can think of! Ray Noble |

If I remember right, Silvano's act can only be done seated. Also Michael Ammar's book has a good method for this. I think this is what David used in one of his earlier specials.
