My brother-in-law made this for me and gave it to me for my birthday:

I was shocked. A couple of months ago I gave him a picture from an L&L video. You know the closeup table they use. I was going to pay him to build it for me, but I got sidetracked and forgot about it.

He built it using the same materials he uses for his custom poker tables.

Can you post the size, what the cover is made of and what kind of padding is underneath? I, and others, might like to take a stab at making one myself.

No stand. I just wanted something I could put on the kitchen table or island.

So little time.......

The frame is oak molding, the fabric is velvet. It feels SO nice sliding coins around on it. The base is plywood. I will ask him what exactly kind of padding is underneath the fabric.

The actual work surface is 20" x 31.5".

You should see his poker tables!

Okay, guys. I got the skinny.

1/2" plywood. On top of that, for the padding, he used a material that goes behind the liner of an in-ground pool! That surprised me. He got it from his friend who installs pools. He said if you can't find that, experiment with different thicknesses of carpet padding.

On top of the padding, velvetine.

Then 1/8" plywood on the bottom to cover up all the folded/stapled velvet and give it a clean look.

Thanks! And if anyone would be interested in having him build and ship one, I could ask him how much it would cost. He's about to have a third child and his wife is leaving work, so he might be up for the extra cash.

Very nice tabletop, BTW. Looks like you'll get a lot of good use outta that one. 20"x30" is the size of my table as well! A nice "piece of real estate" on which to work your magic (also you can hide behind it if anything goes wrong!)

That is so cool! I'm building one that's not as nice looking using some solid plywood I found and ordering Veltrex (A "Vel-cro" fabric) used by Eddie Tullock in his Trade Show performances. I think I have and idea for an adjustable stand. How about the type of stand used for Musical Keyboards? S.R.
