Hey my friends,
For the 2008 LVMI we are planning a salute to the close-up magicians that worked the world famous Tower Bar... So get ready for; Doc Eason, Eric Mead and Bob Sheets! Joining the Tower crew is the marvelous Jay Scott Berry (JSB is emigrating to Australia so this may be your last chance to see his beautiful magic live)... And how about we add in one of the most creative and talented magicians in the business, Daniel Garcia! In the planning stages is a forum/session/workshop called Exploring Erdnase with Jon Armstrong, Allan Ackerman and Jason England. The dates are June 8th-10th at the Palace Station Hotel and Casino. The stars of magic will be hangin’ out and jammin’ all night long… David Blaine was at the 2007 LVMI… so you just never know who’s gonna show up. Hope to see you in Las Vegas Baby! talent and schedule subject to change... |

Hi,
Being pretty new to magic and having never attended a Magic Convention, could you tell me a little more about LVMI? What is included in the price and what costs extra, how many lectures can I hope to attend, etc? I'd like to start attending some conventions and Vegas is close by so a great place to start! Mike |

Hey Mike,
LVMI registration is $175 and there are no other costs or charges... there will be six main lectures as well as special session on Erdnase and Rick Maue will be discussing Bridging Magic and Mentalism... There may some extra events that we add in but the price remains the same until it increases on April 15th so register early and save... LVMI attracts a who's who line-up of magicians from around the world and it's the place to be if close-up magic is your interest... |

Thanks for the additional info Danny.
Sounds very cool. I'm thinking this could be a cool first foray into attending a convention. The place and time are both right so I'm pretty close to flippin the switch on this one. I'd love to see Danny and get a chance to say hi. Mike |

Mike,
Danny is absolutely correct, but there are some other things you need to plan for if you are like 98% of the other magicians I know... All of the lectures are AWESOME, but I find that purchasing the notes that most lecturers sell after the lecture is pretty much mandatory for my learning experience. In my experience, most, if not all, of the lecturers sell notes, books, DVDs, etc. after the lecture (frequently at a great discount...) There is also an AWESOME dealers room at LVMI that includes great books, dealers, and all kinds of great stuff (including amazing people like Daryl, Mark Mason, Dean Dill, and tons of other great magicians selling their goods.) If you have amazing self control, you can get out of there just paying for the convention, hotel, and food. Personally, I need to bring an empty suitcase just so I can cart home everything I absolutely HAVE to buy... (My wife hates when I go to LVMI because she has to deal with my excitement and desire to show her all of my new stuff for months after!) In addition, if this is your first shot at Vegas, I would suggest catching a couple of the great magicins who are performing there! I am confident someone on The Café could suggest a great show (and perhaps even arrange a discount for us!!!) PM me if you decide to go. I figure sharing a hotel room would give me more money to spend on stuff!!! Michael |

OK Danny, you convinced me! I just signed up and am looking forward to my first Magic Convention! If anyone else from SLC is going let me know. My wife may go down with me early, Friday and Saturday maybe, but probably wouldn't want to stay through the rest and could drive back with someone elses wife or girlfriend if they felt the same way!! PM me if you're interested.

Hey Danny, haven't been to LVMI since I participated in the panel discussion that Lee Asher hosted. I am very much looking forward to seeing everyone again - LVMI is always a good time.

All I will say about Brooksie at conventions is that he is almost as much fun at a room party as JC Wagner and Bob Sheets! And speaking of room parties...'
YEp! You guessed it! We will be having ours at the coolest convention around! Those of you who have been there, know what I mean... Those who haven't been... will never understand! Or as Lee Asher so aptly put it... " Hell, it aint a party unless the cops show up!" See yall there!

I would love too! Actually, I felt the discussion was just begining to get good when we ran out of time. There are many issues that really need to be talked about. If Lee Asher ever decides to host another such panel discussion I would be honored to play a part in it. Doomo said; "All I will say about Brooksie at conventions is that he is almost as much fun at a room party as JC Wagner and Bob Sheets!" Gee Tony, I'm not quite sure how to take that. Do I still warrant an invite?

Speaking of JC.. I talked with Sheets yesterday and he hinted that JC may show up and perform in the Bar Show... we have only one panel discussion planned this year called Tales of the Tower where Bob, Eric and Doc will sharing stories of performing at the Tower Bar...
The Erdnase Session will be taking the place of another discussion... with all the attention on the new DVD's coming out, we are fortunate to have a great trio of experts Ackerman, Armstrong and England on hand to enlighten and entertain... See ya in Las Vegas! |

I'm looking forward to my first one this year. Wanted to go in the past, but my schedule didn't permit it. I blocked it out first, before anything happened, this year. Looking forward to it! Especially the panel discussion with the Tower guys.
