Daryl, thanks for your time here.
From time to time folks here at the Café post a question about dry hands/fingers, how it can make manipulation difficult, and how to fix the problem. This was a horrible problem for me. Until I found just the right product, I couldn't perform effectively with cards or your Color Changing Knives. When I found the right product (after much trial and error) the problem went away. I wondered if you ever faced this, or a similar, type of problem? Thanks, Mark

So what do you use?

The only thing that I have found that works "across the board" (i.e., good for cards, coins, etc...) is Zim's Crack Creme. Also makes a heck of a dark patina on copper cups.
But everyone's mileage will vary depending on their own hands. Others swear by other products.

Richard Osterlind sells a Moisturizer Bar. This might help.

Mark,
I don't know if this will help. Martin Nash tipped me to this trick . Buy some finger moistener that they use for counting money and sorting mail(try staples). Some brand names are Sortqwik and Lee papercreme. Take a small lump and place it behind your ear lobe. When you feel your fingers getting dry simply inconspiciously rub your earlobe and work the product into you fingertips. Hope this helps. Blessings+++, Rich
God's grace rocks! It makes a good cups and balls routine look pretty boring in comparison.

Thanks, Rich, but Zim's did solve all of my problems. It stays on a really long time.
My post was more to ask if Daryl, over his long career, had ever gone through a similar issue with (be it dry hands or whatever) that made manipulation difficult.

Does anyone have the problem of fingers being to sweaty/slippery? What do you do? I sweat a lot, especially during a performance, and I find that even the famed Fakini balls easily slip through my fingers, if I'm not careful. I am constantly dropping props, balls, cards, square circle tubes, glasses of liquid (ouch) and the like. Any advice?
Thanks Brian |

Chessmann,
I have the same problem. I tried Richard's Moisturizer bar but for me it didn't work well. I did a google search on Zim's Crack Cream and found several variations of it. Zim's Crack Creme, Advanced Formula Hydrogen Peroxide Gel - 1 oz Zim's Crack Creme, Liquid Herbal Formula - 2 fl oz Zim's Crack Creme, Alcohol Free Hand Sanitizer Moisturizer - 2.54 fl oz Zim's Crack Creme, Creamy Daytime Formula - 2.25 fl oz Zim's Crack Creme, Creamy Daytime Formula - 6 oz $8.99 Zim's Crack Creme for Heels & Feet - 4 oz Can you tell us which one you use? I'd like to give it a try. Thanks, Mike |

Don't have any on hand here. Mine I get at the local pharmacy. It is a small pump-spray bottle.
Off-hand, I don't think any of the ones you listed is what I use (which is what I think of as the garden variety version).

Mark: I’m just now beginning to have this problem but I’ve never used a commercial product. Fortunately, there is only one trick or technique I use that requires a tacky hand (actually, just the tip of my left index finger) and that’s my Hot Shot Cut card revelation. I solve this by saying “I will discover your card in a very special way, weather conditions permitting”. I then openly place the tip of my left index finger into my mouth to moisten it, and then I hold it up as if checking the direction of the wind. It’s fun to do and I’m the only one who knows the real reason behind the action.
