One of the purchasers of my new book asked me about the artwork on the cover of Kingdom of the Red. That got me thinking, and I thought it would be fun to use the cover as the subject of a contest. If you don't own the book, go to this link for a jpeg of the dust jacket cover:
http://www.geocities.com/larrybarnowsky/KOTR-Cover.jpg or a 2MB pdf; http://us.share.geocities.com/larrybarno......inal.pdf Which actual castle that still exists today inspired the cover? What's hidden on the cover that is a clue to the castle's location and identity, and also relates to the contents of the book? The best answer or answers to one or both of these related questions will win Four Authentic Solid Dollar Size Chinese Coins and a 1 3/4 inch Extra Large Size Solid Chinese Coin sent via First Class Mail. Good Luck, Larry |

Hey Larry,
Here's my guess: The Knights of the Rose - Often claiming to be the oldest order in LambdaRPG, the Knights are quite bound by tradition and honour and the Code they are meant to uphold. The KotR castle is located near Secluded Grove, and a visit might prove helpful if you wish to join this order. Arcanum Magus - The magi within the circles are secretive, though not so tightly knit as, and lack the camaraderie of, the Knights. They are wont to destroy one another in combat for ambitious gain and power. You might also try skulking around the more scholarly chambers of KotR castle to learn more of this guild. I suppose the Kingdom of the Red follows this tradition of passing secretive information to the few to create a theatrical and entertaining premise for each of the magical effects. Bosco |

Great answer, Bosco. It's not correct but quite imaginative. Remember, the castle exists today.
Also, when you submit your answer, please post it on this thread so everyone can read them. And there is no limit as far as guesses. Larry |

OK, my guess is as follows.
Inside the window of the castle is the Queen of Hearts. She relates to the card effects in the book. A little search, and I came up with Cinderella's Castle in Disney World. The castle on your cover and Cinderella's castle are almost identical in presence. |

Both magnificent castles, but neither were the model for Kingdom of the Red.

Podcastrant,
My grandfather, who lived in Vilnius, probably saw that castle. But that's not the model for Kingdom of the Red. |

I've been to Akershus and it is amazing, but not the correct answer.
Boldt Castle is also incorrect, but the style is similar. |

Hmmm, aside from the queen peering at us magicians with lots of time on our hands to look into things like this, there are red stripes, red flags, the KOTR letters, and a monk staring at a square circle sitting on the top of the parapet. Of course, it may be a jug of beer. So I looked at a list of monasteries which make beer, but none of them looked like this castle. I'm stumped so far.
The real magic is family!
