Greetings Everyone,
I've been doing the standard (original?) Card Warp routine for quite some time and use the bill and single tear. When I get to the end of the routine, I just tear the card in half by folding the card withing the bill and set the two halves on top of the bill as I remove them from inside. I see some suggestions in various DVD presented routines of tearing the card into quarters so the spectator cannot back track and figure out the trick (Michael Close and Scotty York). For all the times I've done the trick, the spectator has only in one instance wanted to keep the card pieces as a souvenier and I've never felt like they could figure out the trick. Even if the pieces are in quarters, couldn't they match them together anyway to see that all match when they are all oriented face down? Do any of you have experience where you felt that you needed to further tear the card into quarter pieces to hide the methodology of the trick? Also, with the Bruce Cervon Warp II version, he says at the end as he turns the card pieces all face down, "Note that fiber for fiber the torn pieces match, yet the folds in the center of the pieces go in opposite directions." Maybe I'm a bit dense, but I don't understand what this is supposed to be saying...or what this is supposed to lead the spectator to believe. Any insights into this part of the trick would be greatly appreciated. Bob L. |

No ive never felt like the spectator is going to figure it out they are so amazed at what just happened that they are not going to sit down and try to match up the tears. As long as you offer for them to handle it afterwards that takes away any suspision they may have had and makes the trick seem as fair as you presented it

This effect is a staple in my walk around show I do the basic warp, tear the card and I have the spectator hold out his or her hand and set the cards on their hand.I have never been busted and they love the fact that they can have the cards and inspect them. Also because I am doing walk around I tell them they can have the cards for souvenirs. Then I don't have to dispose of them.

I simply cannot wait for the upcoming book by Jeff Pierce. Given the amount of study he is devoting to the subject I have high hopes for it to be the last word on "the warp."
Hey Jeff, How about a status update? :) |

It looks like my fears were unfounded! I guess the professionals on some of the DVD's just wanted to put a bit of "insurance" into the ending by tearing the pieces further just to be sure the secret could not be figured out.
But for me, it looks much better just to keep the pieces the way they are (with the card torn in half). If I tear it into quarters, to me it seems obvious I'm trying to hide something. Bob L. |

First of all, when using a bill, you're likely doing either Bob McAllister's "Greenwarp" or Mike Close's "Dr. Strangetrick".
I never liked the tearing at the end. One day I'll have to sit down a find a way to hand out the card in one piece with no tear and only the crease. |

Alain Nu has a nice ending where you take the torn pieces and change them into a box made from the torn pieces.

As a lot of you know I've been working on a book based on Roy's wonderful effect "Cardwarp" for some time now. I don't want to give to info much away but many of the questions you ask about this effect will be answered in this book. there will be a dozen or so scripts that you will simply apply the standard handling to, along with ways to get into it, completely different and sometimes bizzare routines, and ways to finish the routine. Including Alain Nu's very cool Warpagami.
I'd like to push my Cardwarp project into high gear so I'm asking one last time for any references to Cardwarp effects and routines that you have seen in books, lecture notes or were shown to you by someone. Any routine that you thought was interesting, I'd be interested in hearing about. Thanks to all that have contributed info so far. Jeff Pierce

Whenever I do it now, with a little set up, although you can't do it anytime anywhere anymore I think it is worth it, I go from Carp Warp to an unsigned version of Daniel Garcia's Torn.

If you want a truly nice giveaway that will leave'em scratching their heads, do the two card routine and end with a Hypercard. Tom Frame puts out a nice booklet called The Hypercard Project. He is tomcards on here. Or pick up Wesley James' book Enchantments which has his Hyperwarp routine also. Tom includes Wesley's routine in his booklet as well. Hypercard has been mentioned here regarding this same topic a few times.

I use the classic routine, two cards Black Hole or Back To The Future, I pretty much make the patter up as I go. The effect is strong enough where the patter doesn't hurt me. But I hate when I do this effectt, 8 out of 10 times I will hear "Now put them back together. I don't have an out for that so ill say ok watch(SHUTTLE PASS) squeez have them extend out his hand and vanish the card altogether. Any suggestions for that? PM or talk publicly here if you wish.

Hypercard takes care of that and leaves with them with something memorable. Anyone that uses it can tell you the strength of the Hypercard ending.

Maybe a little off topic, but...
I'm an American living in Japan. Whenever I do CardWarp for Japanese people they alway seems disturbed that I would bend, fold and rip cards. This goes for any routine that I do (paperclipped, etc.), but especially Warp. I haven't taken the time to work on a good T&R routine yet, and I'm not sure that I want to. I was curious if anyone has had this sort of reaction before. Amazed, but disappointed that I destroyed a card or two. |
