Marc,
Many people know you through your incredibly visual card change "Shapeshifter". I can imagine that you have many uses for it other than a visual change of the face of a card. What are your favourite applications for it and where can they be found, if published? /Tomas |

I think you can also use this for a switch of cards. if you have 2 the same cards visible and do the snap, nothing happened but when one card is a odd colored backcard(or whatever) it is a very good method for switching cards.

I've always loved Eugene Burger's thoughts that if David Copperfield does something on TV, Eugene won't touch it. He knows that it'll be the new flavor of the month for every magician on the planet. Marc showed me the Shapeshifter about 1 month before the first David Blaine special. I think that's when it really took off. I've played around with it, but it became so popular, (because it's good) that everyone was doing it.

Aha, so that's the reason why I have not seen Mr Burger fly on stage or allow himself to be sawn in half.

LOL Tomas,
Good to see you all here. Shapeshifter was created as a move with no particular effect in mind other than a color change. I started really using it as a revelation of a selection, when I found "the wrong card". Then I expanded that idea with another color change I came up with that is also on the Shapeshifter DVD from ellusionst, called the New Theory Classic Change. By combining them, I could start with a blank card changing to a joker, then to the selection. In sessioning with John Blades from upper NY State, we came up with an odd effect of a signature disappearing from the card. Wesley James came up with the action of the Shapeshifter to secretly reverse a packet. I've also used it in a variation of an early packet trick of mine called Small Backs, where four double backed cards are shown, one instantly becomes an Ace, then the packet is dropped face up on the table to show all four Aces. A move within the context of a routine is not the same as an effect ( flying, etc. )

One other effect I should mention. I do the "classic" two card transposition with the duplicate card. The deck is set with duplicate/indifferent/duplicate. Double lift to show the indifferent card, turn it down and issolate it on the card case or on a glass. Double lift to show the duplicate, turn it face down and take it at the fingertips. Make your magic gesture and reveal the transposition. Now replace the cards and offer to repeat the effect. Do the double lift to show the indifferent card and isolate it. Now you have to do a second deal to take out the other duplicate card. Place it on the deck and do Shapeshifter for an instantaneous and very visible transformation. The turn over the isolated card to reveal the transposition.

Did anyone happen to see Hugh Laurie (aka House) perform the Shapeshifter during the episode with the magician in it?

I did see Hugh Laurie do Shapeshifter. I don't like to criticize, but I'd rather he hadn't done it...it looked terrible..very obvious and no follow through.
