Steve, when you were performing close-up in the 80's , what were your views on these:
1) The Pass. It's been told that Charlie Millers couldn't be seen, it was that good. What are your views on the pass-Is it vital or passed its time? 2) The best card and coin trick ( in your opinion performing for lay people ) and...Card To Wallet. Have it appear in an envelope or not. Pat Page says it adds nothing to the trick, other swear by it. Or...you may not even have ever performed card to wallet. THANK YOU!!

Christopher I still perform close-up, even do a few bits in my stage show. Charlie was one of the greatest card guys ever, but I never really saw him do to much with cards for laymen. I do remember him dealing impeccable seconds on his bed in his apartment, his pass must've been good because I never saw it.
My favorite pass is the Spread Pass from the Paul Lepaul book, which I use, but even this has some angles. Realistically I'd say other controls are more deceptive. In my opinion the best laymen card tricks are Ambitiuous Card and Rising Cards... for coins I'd say Copper/Silver and Matrix/Translocation/Shadow Coins type effects. Yes I've done the Card to Wallet with the envelope. I think the best use of the wallet/envelope is not a card trick or transposition... Ron Wilson's version of Confabulation gets my vote. |
