Greetings.
I purchased years ago some Chinese sticks, and they are square on each side, main body is red, with Gold painted wood ends. The body is metal. Action on them are quite good, and I thought Viking made them but I can't find the name, etc. Do these sound familiar to anyone? Thanks! RevJohn |

Almost sound like older version of the Kovari chinese sticks, but I'm not sure. I own a set of the new ones, they are red, and square but the body is made out of some sort of composite material.

Do they look like this?:
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

Are they really red ? I have an original set made by Fred Haenchen(sp?), and they are actually orange-ish. Are teh newer ones really red ?

Hayre, the paint may have faded. Red paint is subject to oxidation, from what I've heard.

Seems like you could take the cheap bamboo ones apart and customize them to work pretty well. Has anyone done this?
How quiet are the good ones compared to the cheap bamboo (or the plastic royal ones)?

Back in high school I made a set of sticks using AA batteries and bamboo. It worked pretty well, better than some of the $50+ ones that I've tried. I also made some good looking tassels for it as well. They were decently quiet, no one noticed from a few feet away. I could feel the sticks more than hear them.
I don't know why, but I find the bamboo sticks sort of cheesy. Better than the dragon heads I guess. I'm going to try and talk General Grant out of a set of w******s and make up the sticks and tassels.

Personally I think that Martin Lewis has the best version that he calls Ripstix!

Get the Stevens DVD on Chinese Sticks and see my routine, as well as the Kaps/Benson way.

I just did, Pete. Last night I watched the Stevens video. Yours was definitely the best routine on the video.
If you watch all of them closely there are some nice handling tips throughout.

Our friends don't have to agree with me about everything and some that I hold very dear don't have to agree about anything, except where we are going to meet them for dinner.

I don't mean to be unkind to anyone, but I honestly have a question.
The Chinese Sticks is a trick I used to perform in 1946 when I was nine. The Sticks seem to me like change bags...objects from the 19th century. Is it still a viable routine in these days of "chris angel impaired" audiences. Does the Sticks performance today get a good response? I again emphasize that I don't intend to insult anyone...I am curious> Best regards, Glenn Godsey |

I have used it for ovr 20 years in almost every show. It is one of those tricks that people always react well to. It's like my American Express card. I would never leave home without it

I get so many laughs with my routine, I would never leave it out (unless I had only a five minute show to do).
