Hey guys,
Apart from 'The Illusionist' film, catching any footage of the Orange Tree Illusion being performed it pretty hard to come by, however I found a clip of it being performed by Paul Daniels and I think he did a splendid job. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ht_afydffk My only gripe is that the audience didn't react much. Oh and check out Paul's killer muttonchops!

The magic that he presents is, shall I say old fashioned. That's not to say that he is not presenting magic as it should be.
We now have have DB and CA. Now we have e***dti*g and a s(((g((es, and this is what we now call magic. It is an abomination of magic.

Paul's presentation, fitting the style and period of the Orange Tree was a delight to see.

Nicely done, I also enjoyed the other videos by the poster, I believe he's a Café member.

It has been posted a few times
(http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=193226&forum=7) Always good to see though. Would be awesome to see the butterflies! John did a fabulous job restoring it, and I don't think the audience appreciates it probably because the don't know the history as much as we do.

Lovely, thank you, Logan. Exquisite craftsmanship and a nice period presentation from Paul.

That was great to watch, but I wish Paul had just presented it as the effect and not explained what was happening.

It was nice to watch, elegant I'd say, but I don't see how anyone would've believed all that. There was way too much fiddling with the handkerchief in the beginning, obvious blocking and movements of furniture, etc. There's a hundred ways the ring can end up in the tree (incidentally a very nice mechanism), maybe 200 ways behind all the pomp and circumstance of the presentation. It wasn't very magical to me or believable but it was nice to watch I suppose.

I'm a Robert Houdin admirer. When I was young, I had the dream to be able to build the incredible Orange Tree Illusion.
After a lot of hours and a lot of frustrated trials, I've made it, as similar as possible of the original but with new technology inside. I hope you will enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SifVpjigRhM |
