That's right I said "Silk to Egg, the Walk-Around" Version... First I want to say thank you to Bob Sanders the creator of the walk around effect, for not only sharing this with me but making it available to the magic community. Bob has been performing this walk around version for over 35 years and after you learn the effect you'll understand why. I will go over the effect, the quality of the eggs, how the walk around differs from the usual stand up routine and the pros and cons.
The Standard Walk Around Effect: The magician shows a red 18 inch silk then starts to feed the silk into his fist, after a magical gesture the silk has turned into an egg. The magician now tells the audience that he will let them in on the secret. The magician turns the egg around and shows that it is hollow. The hole was just covered by the magicians thumb. The magician pulls the silk out of the egg and begins to show the audience how the trick is done step by step. All is repeated exactly as it was performed before, the magician then gives the audience a tip; "Never remove your thumb from the hole or they will see the silk", the magician turns the egg around to show the hole, he then says " If your audience happens to see the hole then you have to use a little magic," the magician happens to pluck the hole off the egg and immediately hands the egg out for examination. The spectators are left is total disbelief. Egg Quality: When I opened the package the first thing I noticed was the look of the egg. It's very realistic. When I picked the eggs up I found myself handling them carefully as I would a real egg. The second thing I noticed was the weight of the egg. I've used other "Silk to Egg" effects and none have satisfied me as much as this egg and the weight has a lot to do about it. It's heavy enough to know that you won't handle it too loosely and cause it to slip or fall from your hands and is strong enough to know that you won't break it in your hands while handling it. Third thing I loved about it was the hole. It's sized for an adult thumb!!! No more pinching out the silk or having to make several attempts to remove it. The size of the hole also makes it easier to load the silk, every "poke" you make when you insert the silk in the egg should look the same when your performing it and this egg allows you to do so. To sum it all up the eggs are perfect. I actually put mine in the egg holder in my fridge while my wife was cooking. Of course, I watched her carefully...she picked up the gimmicked egg and didn't even notice it was a fake egg. I told her that I would show her a trick. I had her examine the egg, and she did, she knew something was up and decided to pick up another egg (a real one) to compare... I took the egg, and began to do a voodo trick I saw on some tv special, anyway I ended up switching the gimmicked egg with a different egg and asked her to crack the egg, she did and to her surprise the egg had blood in it. She was amazed at the trick while I was more amazed that she couldn't tell that the gimmicked egg was a fake. These eggs are top quality people, I say you must purchase this if you perform walk around or stage or even if your just thinking about performing a silk to egg effect or already do but don't have this version of it. How the walk around differs from the stand up version: OK if you scroll up to the top you get a description of the effect. The way it differs is you don't need a glass, you don't have to worry about an egg breaking in your coat/pocket, you don't have to buy anymore eggs or take them from the restaurant or club your performing in and the reset is instant. At the end of the effect where you magically remove the hole, you can hand the egg out to be examined. People will be so careful with your egg as if it were real because no one wants to accidentally drop it and get egg everywhere. You might have that person who taps on it but just think, if he/she taps on it, they won't do it hard enough to break it because they think it's real and they don't want that eggy smell on them. Once you take the egg back, just put it in your pocket and the reset is complete. I did this at work a bunch of times and it killed. Some supervisors from a different state came to visit and I performed this for them and a few refused to even handle the egg because they didn't want to break it. I haven't had anyone say, "oh it's a fake", once they handle the egg there's no doubt in there mind that the egg is real. Pros Weighted Perfectly, looks exactly like an egg, large hole for easy loading and unloading of silks, can be handed out for examination, walk around routine has an instant reset, the walk around version also allows you to do the stand up version. No more egg breakage or mess in your pocket, you don't have to run to the store before your show,no cup or glass you have to carry or look for and did I mention IT'S A WALK AROUND ROUTINE...AND ITS' A KILLER EFFECT. Cons: Before I list the cons of this effect I want to let you know that I spent hours thinking of what I can say that's negative about this effect. The only thing that I can come up with is "why didn't I get this sooner?" I can't complain about it, even the silks that are supplied are top quality. And if you have any questions about it Bob Sanders is a Café member, what's better than that, you can talk to the creator of the walk around routine. Just do a search under Bob Sanders or Egg to Silk and you'll definitely find him. Note: It's a great effect, instant reset, nothing to clean up and most of all very affordable... GO BUY IT! Sorry for the long review. Junior

Here's a tip I picked up from Bob...put the gimmicked egg in the fridge for 10 mins before you perform, so at the end when you hand out the gimmick the "coldness" will give more realism to the effect..

OK, up front I have worked with Bob at several conventions in his booth selling both the Silk to Egg versions, so therefore my opinions may be biased.
That said I have used many of the different eggs on the market and Bob has the best one yet. It is the best selling trick other than his plain no-trick oriented silks. I have never heard any complaints, just great positive feedback. If you need a Silk to Egg or just want to update and/or want the Walk-around version this it is the one to get. James Adamson PS I receive no monetary compensation from Bob of any type.
Be remembered for performing what looks like MAGIC, not skill.

I tried to order this at the link posted by Kristopher, but the security check prevented me from checking out. When asked to copy the 5 letters shown, it only showed x's. I tried to do this on my work computer as well as my home computer with the same result. I have sent a PM to Bob asking for help. Not sure if anyone else has had a problem.
Arthur Posted: Mar 25, 2008 4:47pm One other thing. There is a phone number listed only on the silkmagicbiz web site and the man who answered said he knows nothing about the Dixie magic site but he took my name and phone number to leave a message for someone. Wow! Talk about keeping a secret. |

I did this trick yesterday and this kid was playing hot potatoe with it....i freaked out....thankfully I carried a real egg on me so I can s****h it. he then continued to play and dropped it and had egg on the floor....the wierd thing I was waiting for a gasp or a comment like " oh it was a real egg" but I didn't...think about it, that's how good Bob's egg really is, there was no doubt to anyone that the egg was real...

Thanks, Junior.
That might have been a real magic egg! Do put the "solid egg" in the freezer before the show so it will still be cold. Handing the spectator a cold egg is very convincing! They will be afraid that you will crack it. Since these not only look like real eggs and are the right weight and texture, holding a cold one is very convincing that it is real. The spectator won't want it cracked. It really sets him up for the finish. And that sets the magician up to reset for the next table just as he needs to be. The contrasts of holding warm, cold, and warm eggs again helps sell the magic to your audience. (I never even mention the changes in temperature to them.) Although I don't perform the Walk Around version I do own the "silk to egg" produced by Bob. I have owned many versions. In my opinion Bob's is the best.

I too have had some different versions, never seen an egg that looks so *** real. If you're looking for an egg to silk, this is the one to get.
Also the silks that come with the egg are beautifull |

Bob,
I hope you and your lovely wife are doing well? I too have had almost every version ever made and if you're looking for an egg to silk routine, then this is the one to get. I have to agree with Martijn van Berkel that the silks that come with the egg are beautifull and the routine well thought out and practical. |

There you go! You just heard it from D Mann!
This is not your grandfather's egg. (OK, so I kept it secret for 35 years! It is in most of my shows that are not theater shows.) Like David at Precision Magic, second best isn't on the "want list". This is a trick that is always in my bag. It plays well for any size audience. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |
