We took my wife’s parents to Escape Reality last night. This wasn’t our (my wife and I) first Magicopolis visit, but yet again I was extremely impressed, as was everyone else. The show is well paced, well scripted, thoroughly entertaining. I will go even further and admit that as an individual who has studied and performed magic many years, some of the effects performed by Steve fooled and, more importantly, amazed me. Great show Steve – Bravo! We should all strive to achieve this level of entertainment and wonder in our performances.

Since posting this on my blog at http://www.magicopolis.com I've been asked to include it here. Gigs like this are what keep working in LA interesting.
Engaged to perform at a retirement party for a local TV news anchor, I found myself on a small platform in a banquet room at the Viceroy Hotel. Beforehand, I was instructed to pick a certain young woman to come up and help me with a trick. Whenever I looked away from her the audience would roar with laughter. I’d think, “It can’t be me!” I hadn’t said anything funny yet. Then I found out she had been flashing the crowd behind my back. Soon she was totally naked and then another girl screamed, “Her body’s terrible!” Whereupon she took her clothes off, as if to challenge the first naked woman. Suddenly girls all over the party were undressing, partially or completely, and everyone went wild. I never did finish my act. Turns out I was just a cog in the wheel of some twisted party-planner’s idea of fun. If you didn't already know, my theater show, Escape Reality, plays every Fri/Sat 8PM and Sat/Sun 2PM at Magicopolis in Santa Monica. Buy tickets now http://www.magicopolis.com or 310 451 2241 between 11AM and 6PM daily. |

Instead of another barbecue or shooting hoops, our families showed us three dads they care by taking us to Magicopolis for Father's Day. This was my second visit so I knew what to expect, but the looks of surprise, laughter, and excitement on everyone's faces was a real gift. The show features Steve Spill and he really keeps the sprit of magic alive.

More than once I’ve heard someone say, “Hey Spill you ought to have a Magicopolis fan page on Facebook.” The most recent someone was Marie Kleinschmidt, who started our page a couple weeks ago, to join go here:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.......8&ref=mf At the matinee today, toy/game/puzzle designer Scott Kim, who is also the inventor of ambigrams – those cool graphic words that read the same upside down as they do right-side up – has an article on his website http://scottkim.com/ under the "Game Design Articles" section called “Creative Plagiarism” that I recommend all magicians read. It’s a step-by-step guide on how to be inspired by others without copying. Last night we spent a pleasant two hours entertaining super-cool Magicopolis guest, Ray Liotta, who said he loved the show, and who can now be seen at http://www.magicopolis.com and on our Facebook page. Ray is so busy it’s amazing he has time to sleep and eat, let alone visit Magicopolis. Currently he is filming "Date Night" just completed "Youth in Revolt" has two films in pre-production, five films in post-production, and appeared in five films released so far in 2009. Now that’s magic! Finally, I have an out-of-towner on July 25, therefore both the matinee and evening Magicopolis performance on that Saturday will be dark. So there you have my complete and official post for Sunday July 12, see you at Magicopolis in Santa Monica for our show "Escape Reality" Fri/Sat 8PM and Sat/Sun 2PM, tickets at http://www.magicoplis.com or the boxoffice 310 451 2241 is open 11AM to 6PM daily. |

I wanted to let everyone know how I spent last evening in Los Angeles. I went “to the theater”. The performance was, “Escape Reality” at Magicopolis. I had a great time!
Steve Spill gave a grand performance. The show is compelling, humorous, and thoroughly entertaining. I won’t review the tricks or routines, but I will say there were many, “Wait a minute!” statements from the audience as well as from Steve Spill. For those living near the Los Angeles area, participate in this experience. I highly recommend that you make an evening of it. After the show, there will be things you don’t know, but you will also know that Steve Spill provided a nice evening of entertainment worthy of your time. |

Dinner with a Stranger… A super-cool trio of writers gang bang a monthly article where they interview a stranger and review a restaurant all in the same article. I was a stranger and the article came out today. Check this out...

Now finishing up our eleventh year in business at Magicopolis, our show, Escape Reality, is set, like a Broadway or Vegas production. We have some who have seen the show many times, including our record holder, Jim O'Conner, who has seen Escape Reality an astonishing 31 times. Not a joke, I'm dead serious...
We do, however, have different guest performers every single week in our bar show which is booked and hosted by the funny and talented Erik Tait. It's an ecclectic mix with guys like Ferrel Dylan, Arthur Trace, Jon Armstrong, along with stand-up comics and various variety performers. http://www.magicopolis.com has everything you'd ever want to know about Magicopolis. |

I've seen Escape Reality with Steve several times and it never fails to impress. I'm a regular at Erik's bar show, having attended dozens of times. The bar show is sometimes packed, sometimes not, but always fun with a combo of crazys. I forget their names but a few of the girl comedians really rock. See you at the Magicopolis bar show this Saturday.

The Bar Show! has been a lot of fun to run. This week I'm picking up the magic set because it's my show and I'll do what I want. We expect a big crowd this evening due to the headliner, a legendary New York comedian Rick Shapiro. You may have seen this guy on Lucky Louie or in his extremely popular and critically acclaimed one man show at The Edinburgh Comedy Festival. The Bar Show! has been called one of the best alternative comedy magic shows in town, and features some of the best performers from Los Angeles and around the world. Every Saturday night at 10:00 PM we feature hilarious and amazing acts performing behind the bar. There's nothing else in the world like it. Our posting for the show is below. Thanks msmaster for supporting our show. You are one of our favorite suns. That's right sun! You're a glorious nuclear fireball of fun when you are in the audience.
This is it! The final countdown to destruction. We posted this promotion late because we have a huge star performing on the show tonight. You may recognize him from Lucky Louie, The Edinburgh Comedy Festival, or one of the hundreds of films he's done. This man is a legend from the New York comedy scene. RICK SHAPIRO is doing our show tonight. He will face host Erik Tait in a comedy and magic duel to the death. Two men enter as bitter enemies, and only one man leaves, shortly followed by the other one as he locks the door when the bar closes. This is a visceral comedy show. It's going to hit you in the face, the ********, and everywhere in between. Don't miss it tonight or you're going to wonder why you woke up feeling so sad on Sunday morning. TONIGHT! RICK SHAPIRO! NO COVER CHARGE! NO DRINK MINIMUM! 10:00 PM Magicopolis 1418 4th St. Santa Monica, CA. 90401 Be sure to go to our Facebook listing to see our beautiful poster designed by Val Myers of Garage Comedy. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=135357694609 |

I went to Magicopolis with my wife this past weekend. We had such a great time that I am posting about it here.
We went to the 8PM stage show. At one point it seemed that the planets and stars were aligning. This had to do with one of the "willing" volunteers. Talk about perfect casting... it was just so wickedly funny. The rest of the show was masterfully executed and touched on all areas of magic- even some closeup. Steve is a real funny guy, a pure entertainer, and has great magic skills. Afterwards we sat at the bar. The bar show is my idea of what a bar should be like. Start with an insane bartender with sick sleight skills, combine it with a bunch of whacko comedians... and it becomes the best bar in LA. Show up on Saturday nights at 10PM, and you too could become part of the mayhem, and have a beer at the best bar in LA. Ok, I know this sounds like a fanboy post, but I ain't no stinking fanboy. I just call it like it is. If you want to see some great magic of all types, laugh your ass off, then Magicopolis should definitely be on your short list of things to do in LA. Fun stuff. |

My wife and I went to Steve's show last night at 8 PM. It was a fantastic show. Steve warms up to the audience immediately and you know you're going to go on a fun ride for the next couple of hours. Everything presented gets the 'Spill Treatment' and it all comes together perfectly during his routine of 'Flight of the Paper Balls'. Absolutely the best I've ever seen. An internet viewing of it, simply can't do it justice, you have to be there to experience it. When in LA, well Santa Monica, be sure and drop by. Steve is a most gracious host.
Coram Deo

Yes!
I was there for the same show and loved it! Everything Steve does is done very well, and the whole show has a warm and cozy feeling...just good-natured and fun! I liked the levitation very much, and the Spikes was very big and impressive looking. The miser's dream was great. I could have seen more of that. Truly wonderful show! If you get the chance to see it, take it. |

Thank you FISM winner Shawn Farquhar for bringing your PCAM convention to see my show this past weekend. It was great putting human life forms to the many magical names I’ve never had the pleasure to meet in person before, like master magician Eric DeCamps and his lovely wife Celeste.
Also great to entertain recent celebrity guests Barbara Streisand, Mel Brooks, Arsenio Hall, and third time visitor Jack Black over the past couple of months. Now is the time for you to see the show top magicians and famous faces experience when they are in Santa Monica. If you are interested in how a disorganized mind will somehow end up with something as organized as a two hour show, see Escape Reality at Magicopolis in Santa Monica: Friday 8PM, Saturday 2PM & 8PM, Sunday 2PM, boxoffice 310 451 2241 between 11AM and 6PM or online http://www.magicopolis.com 24/7. Finally, please join our Facebook group http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.......8&ref=mf it offers the absolutely incomparable experience of knowing what it would be like to have me as a friend and without the exorbitant costs of trying to book me on a regular basis. |

We were looking for a "different" venue for a company event and came upon Magicopolis. Steve was great to deal with and very flexible in meeting our group's time constraints. The show had something for everyone , from illusion and comedy to a death defying escape. He engaged the audience with his wit as well as his magical abilities. Many thanks to Steve and his crew for providing an unforgettable experience.

Go and see this show if you are in Los Angeles. Steve does a great job and it will give you the opportunity to see the theatrics and routining and comedy that go into an original first rate magical presentation. The audience is completely fooled and entertained. The theater is intimate and the show is in many ways a one of a kind production.

I've lived in L.A. my entire life, and although I've heard great things about Magicopolis, I had never been. Now I can't wait to go back. Steve's show has something for everyone from comedy to dramatic theater. His closer is absolutely awesome! I was on the edge of my seat and riveted to the action. The levitation illusion was brief but beautiful, and as stated by others, he owns the Paper Balls Over The Head.
Eric Tait at the bar after the show is a must-see. He's not only very funny, but he possesses some mad magic skills. Next time you're in Los Angeles check out Magicopolis! Lou Serrano |
