Hi all:
I am looking for a little basic information on two old stacks, namely the Nikola and the Ireland. From my research, it sounds like the Nikola is pretty much out of date compared to Aronson and Tamariz standards. I know it contains a poker deal, but that's pretty much all I've read about. I know that it is discussed in "The Encyclopedia of Card Tricks", but if what I've just written is fact, that's really all I need to know about that stack. Can anyone comment on whether or not it contains much more than a built-in poker deal? I know even less about the Ireland stack. Where can I find a write-up on this? Does anyone use it? I know Paul Chosse had hinted about it in other posts. Without giving too much away, can anyone comment on the benefits it provides? Thanks! PS - I just remembered also coming across the "Hacker Stack". Anyone know what this is? |

Hwy ya,
The Ireland stack is in "Ireland writes a book" 1931 and the Nikola stack in "The Nikola card system" 1927 sorry that's all I can come up with to help mate. Kind Regards |

Nikola is indeed discussed with (some?) built in tricks in the Encyclopedia.
Though I can't find a poker deal in there, there are some spellers and an all-trump hand (for whist/bridge - Nikola was European (afaik) and favoured these games to poker). You could off course develop your own stack to include all the built in tricks you want/need. It is quite fun, to see fellow magicians, familiar with mem-deck use, checking whether your deck is stacked (any way they recognise: Aronson, Tamariz, Nikola etc) and not realising it IS actually stacked - (your own;). |

Thanks all!
Edgar, that's what I'm in the process of doing. It sounds like you have as well? Are you happy with what you've come up with vs. using a pre-published stack? There's something cool about it being your own regardless. |

Indeed, mostly for the coolness factor;-)
Also: don't care much for performing spelling tricks (though like the math behind some of them), and audience (read: family & friends) are not very up to speed on poker - so see no reason to memorise the poker deal sequences (though Tamariz provides a nice out on that). |

There is a Poker stack in the Nikola. It's a four hand stack right off the top of the deck with the second player having to draw a card to fill an inside straight. You win with a Royal Flush.

An Ireland stack will deal a winning hand of solitare.

@Steve Burton: Thanks - I'll look into it (it's about time that I start learning another stack {insert evil laugh here})
