Hi guys,
this should take us all back and I'm sure that some of us here might not feel man enough to admit when they were Mr Magic... Who is Mr Magic? Well he was you when you started out in magic and felt you were getting really good (felt being the word to notice there) and EVERYWHERE you went you were doing magic tricks without people even asking (or wanting) to see any. The time when you were most influenced by your magic hero, and went around performing just like him before you discovered your own performing style and character. As shameful as it is... I think its fair to say we were all there at some stage? And my question is, whats the most hassle you went to, to be Mr Magic? What props did you lug around, how much set up trouble did you secretly go to just so you could break into what should seem like a spontaneous moment of magic... Did you carry around everywhere you went jumbo coins, TTs, ITRs, sponge balls, flash paper, props etc?... and sometimes not even get to use them? Let us know your funny stories if your brave enough? |

When I first started doing magic, I carried a big aluminum briefcase with handcuffs attached to it around with me that contained everything I owned. All my decks of cards, coins, cups& balls, rope, etc. It didn't matter that I couldn't do half the stuff in the case, I was Mr. Magic
In addition to my case, I would have an ITR on,an Inviso Torch, & a Raven. I even had a small close up pad attached with Velcro to the inside of my jacket. I pretty much carried the inventory of a small magic shop around with me. I remember being Mr. Magic! Mike |

Haha once when I first was starting out I did the balducci ALL THE TIME and I was at a store and just awkwardly brought up the subject of magic and I did the balducci. I didn't think it was a bad performance either. I would carry a tt, a silk, cards, sponge balls, string, a ring, and cup and balls. Now I try to be more professional and am a lot different from my previous "street magic" David Blaine wannabe persona. I love the magician Ive become and still have a ton of learning to do, but I don't plan on stopping!

I only used sponges, rope and other props when trying things out on family and friends. |

To this day I still carry a deck of cards and a sharpie with me everywhere I go. When I first started, I always had at least one deck, a few packet trick wallets, scotch and soda, D'Lites and a Raven. I looked like a major dork because in August, it's 95 degrees in the shade, and I'm wearing a jacket, just in case someone asks me to vanish a coin.

Funny thread Finny!
I think at times I had 3 decks on me! One set for some ridiculous setup that I wasn't competent enough to do on the fly, like OOTW or something. An ID and a regular deck. Then other bits and pieces, rarely left home without a my r***n hooked up too! Cringe! Scott Posted: Apr 22, 2008 10:37pm No idea why I put *** in the word Raven

I suppose you could say I'm still at that stage... I carry only a deck of cards around day-to-day but on weekends, I have flash paper, a hummer card IT setup, two decks (at least), a few preset predictions, a lighter and one coin.

Haha, I'm in this phase right now. And your trying to tell me it's going to end? No fair!
I do cards and some simple coin stuff, so I always have a deck on me. I have gone so far as to sip a coin under my boss' patch while he wasn't around. Vanish a dup then reveal. I want to start going to special occasions with cards in small envelopes that are body indexed and do some mentalism in that way.

The worst I ever got was in carrying a few items in my wallet (E-Z Money and Kolossal Killer). JIC.

Let me just say that cargo shorts can hold a LOT of crap. I haven't CONSISTENTLY carried around a boat-load of tricks. But I have been known to take spongeballs, spongebunnies, invisible deck, scotch and soda AND a hot rod with me. Just in case.

Wow, I'm still in this as well. I mean recently I've dropped a lot of stuff such as sponge balls and other things unless I know it's a good chance I'll need em like a social gathering of some sort, parties etc...
Now it's still usually (if cargo pockets) 3 decks, a packet trick, sharpie, maybe a half dollar and few small coins, oh and my triple threat wallet. Actually...that's a LOT less than I used to carry, hm, maybe I'm coming down out of this phase, taking the necessities. But no, I used to walk around ALL THE TIME with a big wool trench coat on (it's summer now so it's retired until I get a lighter one), always had a raven and a pull hooked up, one in each sleeve. Multiplying golf balls, sponge balls, biting quarter (remember when that was cool?)...yeah, I was packed. THanks for bringing it up guys. |
