Torn and restored card can be found in most magic books. Go to you local or web-based magic shop and order a book on card magic.

You could use the search function at the top of the page to find out a wealth of information about this on the Caf?. My favourite is "The Reformation" by Guy Hollingworth. You can find it in his book Drawing Room Deceptions. It is not for the faint hearted, but worth the scores/hundreds of hours you will need to put into perfecting it.

Daniel Garcia's "Torn" dvd. Try doing a search on it. Best version available by far.

There is no such thing as best anything, for example Torn is a piece by piece restoration Quaterly Returns is a flash restoration.
Most or all piece by piece are angle sensitive,, QR can be done surronded. in a walk around . just my two cents the godfather |

My vote goes to Reformation. Very satisfying when you perfect it. Here's a tip for those who do it. get them to sign the BACK of the card instead of the front. That way you never have to worry about a fake signature!

Also the beauty of the final restoration is that you show a 3/4 card, with their signature on the face and then restore the missing corner to the card. I'm not sure how you accomplish this with a sig on the reverse. Scott

You don't really show the back before the final piece restoration. The card spins and the back is seen but only briefly and the fingers are covering most of it. (i think) I have been performing this for so many years I can't be sure how much of it are my tweaks on handling and how much is Hollingworths original.
I think it works (for me) better than the fake because sometimes the writing can be SO different. Also, at the conclusion of the trick everyone wants to see the signature and all heat is taken away from the dirty hand. |

Matthew, you may well be right. I have just always thought this is one of the strongest moments in this handling. You are showing the back of a fully restored 3/4 card!!! (if that makes sense) Pause a beat. Let it register. This is one moment that most of the other handlings don't have. (to the best of my knowledge). Only a second later you turn the card face forwards and show the 3/4 card with the spec's signature on it. Everything is exactly as it should be. Anyhows, it is whatever works for you.
Cheers Scott

And in my competition act I don't have the card signed at all. Just let the restoration speak for itself. Whatever suits I suppose.
Anyway, I think we are both in agreement telling ystar to take a look at reformation. |

The best version I've ever seen was by Darwin Ortiz. It has an actual presentation, as opposed to most others I've seen. Most Torn and Restored Card Effects just rely on expositional presentation. Darwin's does not.
