So... we all know you pick pocketed the secret service, for entertainment purposes only obviously, but what really happened when they gave you heat for it? What did they say to you and how was it for you when it gained a bit of national attention?

I had just arrived backstage at CME and was signing in for work. There was a large meeting with the show producer, Brian Dixon. They told us that Jimmy Carter and his guest would be visiting the show that night and there would be certain guidelines that had to be followed. The Secret Service had run background checks and we were only allowed to perform if we had been on the list. At the end of the meeting, Dixon said he needed to speak to me. Everyone laughed because of the nature of what I do.
I was told that I could not shake Carter's hand... much less do what I do. BUT... Brian said off the record, "It would be funny as hell if you could fleece the Secret Service." He scheduled me in a different performance area so I would have more access. One of Caesar's head of security had heard about my objectives and pulled me aside to offer me some advice. He said that taking a gun is a felony regardless of my intent. Also, that the Secret Service are entitled to react in any way they deem appropriate and Caesars would not be liable. I approached two SS agents who were stationed together. While they were very rigid, I was able to get them a little involved. The 1st agent said "You're pretty fast." I responded that it was difficult with all this stuff in my pockets. I then began reading this document I had found. "It's difficult to read, as thes aren't my prescription..." As I said this, he noticed I was wearing his glasses. When he took them back he realized I was reading a document marked CONFIDENTIAL that was the itinerary for President Carter. He said "HEY!" and snatched it back. The other agent was laughing quite a bit. I mentioned to the 1st agent that he shouldn't read that document if he doesn't have the proper ID. I gave him back his credentials back. He said, "You're dangerous! ...You're doing this to the other guys!!!" He then took me around to the other agents and had me do the same. Eventually, they asked me to do it to the lead agent who was with Carter and his party. He apparently knew what had transpired and said it was not going to happen to him. He said I especially wasn't going to touch his keys to the limo as no one touches them aside from him. He then put them in his front pocket and tapped them. When we finished, I had his watch, credentials and the keys. Just as he started to swear, Jimy Carter said, "I thought you guys were supposed to be protecting me?" This got a big laugh. The lead agent gave me his lapel pin / badge as a momentum. It was a great experience. ~Apollo |

Humans make life so interesting. Do you know that in a universe so full of wonders, they have managed to create boredom. Quite astonishing.

Wow, that is about the most entertaining anecdote I've ever come across...you're a trouble maker, Apollo.
Bill is right, it's a darn good thing you're on our side. Bet that was a blast. ---Mark |
