What is the best Harry Lorayne magic book? I was thinking about getting "Card Classics of Ken Krenzel".
Any opinions? |

Many say "Close-up card magic" but also "the magic book" -which is a very good book suited for a beginner.
I have only read a little in "The magic book" and it seems very good.

Ken Krenzel's "Card Classics" is an incredible book.
IMHO, I wouldn't recommend it for beginners.

Ken Krenzel's "Card Classics" is definately not for beginners. Harry's "Close-Up Card Magic" is a classic. Many magicians love it and consider it a 'must have' for any serious card magician. The Magic Book is good also but more general in scope.

I also think Krenzel's card magic is great, but indeed not for beginners. That is to say, if you start doing magic with the Krenzel book you have a strange collection of sleights in your repertoire.

I like his books Best of Friends (the first volume) and Close Up Card Magic best.

"Close-Up Card Magic" is the way to go.

If one was to poll one hundred magicians, Close Up Card Magic would, I'd bet, be in the top 10 of the compiled results. Great book, excellent writing style, includes sleights, tricks, philosophy.

Harry Lorayne is my favorite magician, when I have his video series.
So I will vote for "Close-Up Card Magic", and also "Personal Collection" Koji |

I'm not that fond of Harry Lorayne as a performer but the breadth of material in CUCM is quite astonishing.

The Krenzel book is outstanding but not for the beginner. The Magic Book is great for beginners and then onto Close-up Card Magic for some of the most seminal card effects...

Close-Up Card Magic is great. I constantly find myself flipping though it and finding something new.
For who's familiar with the basic sleights, it's a great place to start looking for card effects. (Heck, it's where I first learned my Ambitious Card routine) |

I wrote a review of Close Up Card Magic for a local magic society over 20 years ago while living in Bermuda. I raved about it then and I still do. With the proliferation of books and videotapes today, it can be tough to find the real gems. This book is one of the rare ones!

CUCM is excellent, but I'd also recommend "Star Quality" (the magic of David Regal, written by Harry Lorayne).

Close Up Card Magic is must reading. There is so much great material in there: Vernon's Aces, Apex Ace, Out of this World, Stop, Challenge Aces, Lazy Man's Card Trick, Lorayne Poker Deal, Mated, Ambitious Card Routine, Lost and Found Aces etc. He teaches you the effect, the presentation and how to sell the trick.
