Hi,
I know this type of thread has been started many times before, but all are outdated by a couple of years. Therefore, the opinions back then may not hold true for the opinions given today. I am not looking for anything specific, but if you only had ONE (!) choice, would you go for Genii or M A G I C? And why? Thanks in advance, Charles

I subscribe to both. I would have to flip a coin to choose.
Get both of them. They're worth it. Larry |

Magic for me... although it's not too fair to say as I have never read any current issues of Genii... only Genii's I own are from the 1980's and are pretty bland for my taste.

Genii by a l o n g shot.
But if the question was "any" magic magazines, it'd be Antinomy at #1, with Genii a solid second. |

Magic, because it's spoon fed information. It requires less thought then Genii.

Genii for me. I previously bought Magic but switched to Genii 5 years ago. A change I never have regreted.
But of course is a matter of taste what you prefear...

Genii.... the reason is Genii is more about the history of magic and gets into more detail than Magic. Magic Magazine is like People Magazine while Genii is like Time.

I get both (and several others), and of the two I'd pick Genii, but (as silverking suggests) there are other terrific magazines to consider, so it really depends on the type of material you are looking for.

I subscribe to both and both are great, but I have a special fondness for Genii.
Part of it is probably due to the on-line community at the Genii forum. Also, Genii seems to have a more serious - almost academic - look and feel to it. But that is totally a subjective opinion, and I'm sure many would disagree with me on this. Finally, Genii has had a number of freebies (DVDs, mouse pad, stickers) given away with special issues in recent years. And everyone likes free gifts. Still, Magic is also really great.

Like everyone else has indicated. It is a toss up. Apple or Orange which taste do you prefer? You would have to get both and then decide which you like better. Both are good for different reasons.

Genii by far.
I subscribed to Magic earlier this year and so far I haven't read a great issue. The only thing of interest (to me) is Joshua Jays section. |

Josh's section is also my favorite part of Magic, which is saying something because there's a lot of good stuff in there each month. I also prefer the more modern layout of Magic and think they do a little better with reviews. Genii usually provides better history and goes into subjects in more detail, which is why IMO it feels a bit more "mature," for lack of a better word.
So, if I had to pick, it would be Magic, but I'd miss Genii A LOT. Oh yeah, and "The Top Ten Funniest Acts in Magic Today" issue of Magic is the best magazine cover to cover that I've read in years. |

Josh's column in Magic usually has some great stuff - mostly close-up. Genii always has a few effects in each issue too, but they are more hit or miss, imo.
