I just got off the phone with Mr. Mann and he was telling me about this killer effect that he was going to be releasing in the near future called Gourmet Fooled. Here is the advertisment from his site.
A spectator is selected to take part in a experiment of the mind. Your spectator is given a prediction to hold on to and is asked not to look at it just yet, or to reveal what's written on the back. The spectator is then asked to close his eyes and Imagine that he is back at home. Once its confirmed that has happened the spectator is asked to go into his imaginary kitchen and blurt out the very first Food that comes to his mind. Now, this could be any food like bananas, a steak, a baked potato, a Burger, well anyway you get the idea. It is completely up to the spectator which food he blurts out. Lets say that he says Popcorn! The spectator is then instructed to open his eyes and look at the prediction and to read it out loud so all can hear. The spectator is amazed that the prediction matches his thought of food exactly. Points to note: When the spectator is asked to think of his food the magician is well away from him. Only one prediction is used. There are no switches of the prediction. No Nail Writers of any kind used. Once the prediction is handed to the spectator, YOU NEVER HAVE TO TOUCH IT AGAIN! No Electronic Devices Employed. Gourmet Fooled uses a technology not familiar to Magicians. The effect can be repeated almost immediately (very short reset). No it won't be the same food. Can be done in a multitude of venues... Close-up, Street, Parlor, or Even performed on Stage. |

Maxum,
Thanks for posting this topic. Gourmet Fooled is a very different kind of effect with a method that is very devious. I doubt that many will figure out the method. The modus opperandi has never been used in such a way before. If anyone has a question about the effect, I will do my best to answer without revealing the secret. |

Can this be adapted for other things? Like for instance, favorite automobile, favorite singer, etc. Thanks Dmann.

DVLKCC,
Thanks for asking such a good question. Unfortunately, it can't be used in the way that you suggest. It can be done for different places like the Carnival, fairs, baseball games, football games, racetracks. Since these all have something in common, it makes it easy to adapt the principal used to different venues in the spectators mind. I can't really be more specific than that unless I told you the secret. |

I would second Christopher's question, and take it one step further.
There is a preponderance of pseudo-unsolicited plugs for new items on the Café, invariably hyping the merits of the 'latest/greatest.' This tactic both lacks integrity, and insults the intelligence of the members of this community; a community which is intended as a place for support, and frank discussion. Yes, caveat emptor should always be a rule of thumb, but it would be nice to have a moral code that all abide by. Call me idealistic. If I am wrong in this instance, I do apologize. But the opening line of Maxum's post ("about this killer effect that he was going to be releasing") does evoke questions of credibility. |

Stan Corrected,
I hate to correct you but Maxium is not releasing anything and is not affiliated with Precision Magic. So, anyone want to talk about Gourmet Fooled... the topic? |

In posting what I did, I suspected there would be some push-back, and certainly allowed for the chance that on this occasion, I was misinterpreting...However....
I would suggest that calling something "killer" before actually seeing/handling it, is, at best premature, and more than likely - hype. I don't mean to split hairs on semantics, and it may simply be that he is excited, but there are many options to express your excitement over anticipating something: ".....what could be/seems to be/sounds like it will be/I can only imagine will be (etc.)....a killer effect..." As I suggested, I could be wrong on this occasion. BUT I will maintain that there is a tremendous amount of this kind of 'shill' hyping going on, on the Café. In fact, very recently, I received an email from a supplier, suggesting that everyone who posted on the Café, praising the accolades of this particular company, would be entered into a draw for a prize. That is the way many people and companies operate. However, I really do have an issue with full disclosure in a community like the Magic Café, where the tag-line is stated quite clearly as "Magicians Helping Magicians," not "magician's Hyping Magicians." |

Stan Corrected,
I do agree with you that there is a certain amount of "Shill Hyping" on the Café and other such sites. I will not be hyping this effect for anyone on this Café or any other site that reviews or has an oppinion. I am only here to help keep the facts straight about Gourmet Fooled. It is, by the way, (at least) a very unique effect and the method has never been used before (at least to my knowledge). I have heard people praising many others effects with a lot more graphic content than Maxum has exibited here. All that over one word? I just wonder do others who bring up topics meet your same scrupulous eye? |

Mmmmm, Maxum seens to have three posts in total this past month, all of them related to hyping Precision Magic products.
And he's on the phone to you getting every last detail of an unreleased effect? A great misconception is that a shill has to be "working" for you OR a part of your project. In fact, he has to be neither.....he just has to generate an unsolicited and insincere "review" of an effect that nobody has seen yet, and do it on behalf of the distributor to curry favor all the way up to taking cash or perks. Take out an ad on the Café if you want to hype a product, and quit taking up bandwidth in the part of the Café that's for "magicians helping magicians"........as I see nothing in Dmann or Maxum's posts that even resembles "help"......just "hype". |

This post was simply the 'straw' for me (my being, in that analogy - the 'camel'). Nothing personal towards you, or your products (I own an Omega reel, FYI, and THAT was unsolicited!).
I, and I suspect, most Café members, enjoy reading about upcoming releases, particularly those that promise innovation. And we certainly expect a certain degree of marketing hype that goes with any new release. However, the one thing that always perturbs me (and, I suspect many others), is when a poster has an undeclared relationship & therefore a hidden agenda, with the principle (marketer) of the effect. If I am mistaken, in this instance, I do (forever) Stand Corrected. |

So, what your doing is called help...? I see. I think this is the right place to quote the rules of this forum. “That is the purpose of this forum. To provide a place where folks can discuss the latest rumors, read announcements and speculate about the obvious hyperbole surrounding many of the upcoming products that are released into magicdom. Will they be genuine miracles or mere rhetoric? We ponder the question..." |

I'm not selling anything mate....nor do I have an agenda.
You however, ARE selling something, and you in fact DO have an agenda. BTW, this forum is for users to talk about products, not distributors and their shills. |

Silverking,
So, your saying that its not cool for creators, inventors, or company spokesmen to come on the Café and attempt to sell their wares (agenda)? You say its not ok for people to shill for others (and I agree), but if those are your oppinions... then your in for a world of hurt, because they are crawling all over the Café. Other people endorse other peoples tricks all the time, so are they all shills as well. Finally, I don't remember anywhere in the rules where you (or anyone else) gets an exclusive club for users only. So, would you like to talk about Gourmet Fooled? |

Will your customer service be as great as with the Omega Reel??? (sarcasm)
And yes this has to do with your product Goumet Fooled, as customer service, or lack thier off, will be a consideration when and if someone purchases your product. This is not a personal attack on you, as I don't know you. This is just a fact.

Edh,
I am not taking any personal offense at any attack that is sent out in my direction. I am here to stand up and say, we had a few problems and now we feel that we have them all worked out. If you don't want to believe me, then that is something that I can't control. I asked you once before if you had a problem with the Omega Reel or is it that you have a hidden agenda as well. It appears that there are many agendas going on here. lunatic, There are only a couple of guys out there who know the secret of Gourmet Fooled. I don't know if any of them will come on this thread and discuss it... But, Gourmet Fooled is an Excellent effect with the spectator being the star. |

Maybe send a couple to a few respected people on these boards who will give an honest review after performing it many times. It sounds from me that you are putting your best foot forward after a big mishap. What you're heckling and jeering your'e experiencing right now is to be expected as their trust is down the tubes. Just give the level of customer service that your'e wanting and everything will be just fine.

Dmann, no hidden agenda my friend. Just "Magicians helping Magicians" in making an informed decision.
