This is really exciting news for those of you who are familiar with Mark Parker's book "Illusion Designs".
During this year Mark is releasing a collection of thoroughly detailed desgins, the first of which covers a new design for Thurston's "Vivisection" illusion.
I saw Mark's first plan for this a few years ago and was impressed by the overall effect then. Now I have received a full fifteen page downloadable design covering every detail of the "Vivisectioned" illusion - this is truly something that the modern illusionist will revel in.
Mark has taken the basic effect and although this does not change extensively in comparison with the original Thurston, the look and method have been completely updated and revised, combining different principles to obtain a tremendous result.
For those unfamiliar with the effect, this resembles something that Siegfried and Roy performed a on their television special that was broadcast in the States and Germany. A girl enters a circular drum, her head and legs exposed. Two blades are inserted (one apparently cuts off the head, the other the legs). The body of the girl is rotated horizontally separating the head and legs (one real hand is also in view throughout). The magician is able to walk around the illusion and the drum is semi-transparent so the audience sees that there is indeed no connection between the body and the severed parts. The body is moved back in position and then the head only is spun around the drum to a 90 degree angle. All is rectified and the assistant steps out of the drum unharmed.
Mark has carefully thought through every detail of this design and each vital element is carefully explained with typical diagrams over fifteen pages. There are no measurements given for Vivisectioned - this indeed is a design, not a plan and size will vary according to the assistant used.
The illusion employs different principles and is intended for the professional illusionist and experienced builder to ponder and develop according to personal needs. This is also not an illusion that you can build in a day! There are electrical elements (purely decoration - not in the method, but nevertheless important to the overall effect), metal work, design elements, material etc.
The professional magician should look to his builder if he wishes to bring this wonderful illusion to his show.

I have recently received an advance copy of "Vivisectioned" from Mark Parker.
Lee has written a great review above.
Mr. Parker's work is outstanding, and his illustrations are amazing. I can't recommend this enough. Thanks Mark, for releasing this to the magic community.

Whoops - I apologise Mark - the email in my post is incorrect.
Although you mention in the design that the look is only suggested, I would certainly go with such artwork - it is modern, simple and extremely attractive. Certainly a prop any illusionist would be proud to own.

Couple of years ago Mark had sent me the data sheet of this illusion. I just saw the latest image and it looks a lot more sleek and eye catchy. I think it is one of the most beautiful looking props in a long time.

Hi,
I too have received an advanced copy of this.
I have always liked Marks work, and Vivisectioned has to be up there with my most favourites.
Very well written and the illustrations are second to none, as with all Marks designs.
For those members who want to add a truly baffling and well thought out illusion to their show, I would definately check this out.
Congratulations on this one Mark.
Definate winner.

SOMEONE HURRY UP AND BUILD IT! I can't wait to see what this will be like in action!
I too recieved an advance copy of Mark's latest diabolical design! He never misses a beat, this is well written, well illustrated, and just a down right cool illusion.

Excellent design Mark ! I'm sure this illusion will be a hit.
Seeing the pictures there's another illusion that comes to my mind. It's presented since a few years by the Illusion duo New Absolom where a woman standing in a circular stand gets her middle cut out.
They use the Soundtrack of the movie Batman for their illusion.
Anyway, your design and illusion effect looks more convicing to me than their Illusion. I think aswell that their tricktechnic is not the same.
Keep the great work going on and I hope to be able to get the manuscript.
