I am searching for an 8 set of 12" stainless steel Linking Rings. Klamm does sell the set for $135. They have a Locking Ring for $75. Some magic shops have 12" Linking Rings made by Funtime Magic. They are made in India. Funtime Magic is cheaper, but does it have the same quality? I heard both rings show no weld. They are both stainless steel, meaning they will not chip or rust. Does the Locking Key Ring from Klamm's matches the coloring and thickness from Funtime's Linking Ring set?
Klamm's shipping charge is 15% of the order. If Funtime Magic matches Klamm's quality I will save about $100. I am not interested in any aluminum rings. I understand Owens are the best, but I am not forward to pay $600. Thanks. |

Mike:
I would pass on the Funtime rings. I have a local friend who bought a set, and after (2) weeks one of the welds came apart. You might not get what you pay for, but you never get more than you pay for. And if you're thinking of buying a key ring, make sure your routine requires it before you spend the money. Jim |

Thanks for telling me that Jim. I do understand what you are talking about because one time I had a pair of very thin 5" rings. One time one of those came apart. I will cross out "Funtime Magic."
Because of all the information I have been receiving recently over the phone and by PM, I will put Pro-Line on my list. They are hollow and aluminum. The present sizes they now make them are 13" and 15". The three presently on my list are Klamm, Rings and Things II and Pro-Line. |

Check the Hocus Pocus site and look for their Redefine Rings. I have a set of Redefine Rings and they are outstanding for money ($275.00) I also have a set of Owen Rings and if I mix them together it is very difficult to tell which is which. The Owen may ring slightly better and maybe shine a bit better, but keep in mind the Owen cost more than twice as much.
For the money you can't beat the Redefine Rings!!! Have a nice day, Walking Bob in Iowa |

The best way to tell what you will like is to handle the rings personally. Maybe you can hook up with someone on the Café or a local magic shop to try different sets out.
Like many others I like the Pro-Line rings and the service from Cliff was fast and courteous. I've started to carry around a camera bag now, so am re-considering the larger rings. It's hard to find a bag that will hold my camera gear as well as the 13" rings. If I could find a nice bag, I would consider getting a set of 15" rings, they really are nice.

I use the PROLine set. They're the best out there...better than the OWEN Rings in my opinion. I've used both PROLine and Owens...I prefer the PROLine.

I just found a camera bag that will hold my rings and my camera gear as well. It's got a bunch of pockets for cards, tt, itr, rope, scissors, chinese sticks etc. I just have to make sure that I don't load it so much that I can't carry it.

Who are all the Linking Ring Manufactures that make stainless steel Locking Key Rings in 12" sizes?

The best locking ring I've ever seen is made by Joe Porper. Can't say if I remember if it was a 12 inch size or not, I know Pete Biro would know.

Hi Dynamike,
I make the Redefine Rings in Singapore and use them personally in my live shows for many years. They are very limited in production due to rising cost of stainless steel and is difficult to find a good craftsman. They come in a carrying bag as well, you can check it out at http://www.redefinemagic.com Bob, I am glad that you enjoyed the rings I found this really good stainless steel polish from Autosol, which cost about $15 a can. After I use it to polish the Redefine Rings, it Blings! Try looking out for stainless steel polish, not just any metal polish. Cheers! Jeremy |

Hi Jeremy, I already ordered the rings from Hocus Pocus yesterday.
Guys, I have been performing with 10" Linking Rings for over 20 years. A couple of years ago someone stole my props. A friend of mine gave me his. I am noticing they are chipping. Now, I decided to upgrade to a new fresh set of 12" Linking Rings. I always use 8 rings. At the end when I show them all (supposely) connected, I have the key ring in my mouth. Sometimes half the kids say "Ehh". That is why I am looking for a locking key ring, so I can display the 8 rings without putting any in my mouth. If anyone finds out who makes a locking key ring that looks similiar to the 12" stainless steel Redefine Pro Rings (diameter 3/8 inch), please let me know. Photius, I will check like you said. Thanks for all of your support guys. I truly appreciate it. |

That is a neat locking ring With a heavy price tag...
I have only worked with Dominico Dante's locking ring, however it is a brass set and the locking mechanism looses it's grip after a while. Jeremy |

With a 12-inch set, you should be able to put the key over your head, rather than in your mouth.

You are right Marc. It should be better without a Locking Key. I'm am using 8 rings. In order for me to put on the single one at the ends I will need support of holding a middle ring. The mouth was good for that. As you mentioned, over the head will be better without the Locking Key Ring. Peace.

You need to research the "Chefalo Cross" a beautiful way to display all the rings much like you are talking about.
Posted: Aug 21, 2008 12:18pm Here's more on Chefalo Cross from Paul Chosse: 1.) "The Odin Rings", Victor Farrelli, author... 2.) "Ken Brooke's Linking Ring Routine" - "Routined Manipulations", Lewis Ganson, author... 3.) "Jack Miller's Linging Ring Routine" (Five Rings) (there is another, second book on this with a much more detailed descrition and analysis - can't recall the author offhand - someone must know...) 4.) Charlie Miller published material on the rings from time to time in Magicana - including a description with background on the Chefalo Cross and other things Chefalo did with the rings... Best, PSC

Rings are a funny thing, they need to fit your personality and your presentation. I used a really cheap, 5 inch set of "Adams" rings for years, still do occasionally. The welds are really obvious - on purpose. I can put the focus on the construction of the rings and negate the thought of them being open at any point by having the spectator really check the welds on every ring. With a perfect ring, no weld showing, the spectator wonders how the ring was made and can assume that if you can make one that doesn't show the weld, well couldn't you also have one made that doesn't show an opening? So, how you decide to present the thing really matters. Ed Marlo has a wonderful routine that was in a "Linking Ring" Parade back in the 50's. It may have been re-printed in the "Arcade Dreams" book, I'm not sure. Rocky (Racherbaumer), would know for sure - write him and ask. Anyway, it was worth learning.
Ed had a lot of things that were beautifully routined and fooled everyone, using over-the-counter magic, what we used to call "slum". He had a sequence with the "Color Vision Box", the "Linking Rings" that started all this, a trick using the old "Red Snapper", a "Bottomless Glass" routine, "Color Changing Knives", "Dime and Penny", and on and on. You will be amazed at the creativity that is evident in Marlo's routining of this standard, "oh that old thing!", magic material. I have fooled countless magicians with a combination of Marlo, Slydini, and Eddie Fields work with the "Color Vision Box". In fact, it is so good that I searched high and low for the old style box with a solid wooden cube with the colors inset. The insets are different colored plastic disks. It is really a nice prop, if you can find one. The box is still plastic, but a heavier, really opaque plastic that holds up for years. Well, there I go, wandering far afield from the original topic. Enough out of me for now... Best, PSC
