Yeah,I know there are some crackhead idiots that put shades on stand for a while, make rock money,go get high, come back, repeat. But I do see the art in the true statue mimes. The breath control and concentration to pull off the illusion for any length of time blows me away.It seems to create a spectacle that people appreciate enough to pay the trickle anyway.I hate to see true statue or any mime artist for that matter lumped in a group label of do nothings.I personally don't care for rap music, but I can appreciate it as a form of self expression. An artform originating from the streets.Judging anothers artform as valid or not becomes a real slippery slope.

That's a shame that people use an art form like this to support a drug habit. I forgot about living statues until this was brought up. I saw one last year at Universal and it was neat he was a soldier. I did not know that all these other things such as Mimes and staues are considered Busking. I did nto know this since I am not a busker and just thought that Buskers were the real street magicians and have always been fasicnated by this. Ive liked this ever since I was in Orlando as a kid and they had a place called Church Street Station and it was full of street magicians. I think I am going to visit there again when I go to Florida. I have another question for all you Buskers. You are mentioning about trying to set up a spot and gaining turf. Obviously there are places where it makes sense to do this such as Church street station or Atlantic city. Do any Buskers ever perform at places where it might not be normal for example your home town? How do you guys know where a good place to perform is? Ive seen some people in New York get spoken to by the police. Is this illegal or do you need permits or soemthing? I am just interested in your art form ad find it fascinating. Are there any books on the history of street performing?
Chris

There's a guy on YouTube who does the "living statue" thing outside a wax museum dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow! He's gotten so much attention, Johnny Depp even showed up and praised him!

There is a bronze sculptor in Las Vegas who does beautiful, very realistic work. His sculptures are scattered around town, in front of the Library, sitting on park benches and in Casinos. There is a group of "Living Statue" workers who paint themselves bronze and post in exactly the same way. Very seldom do they ever break character and when they move it's very subtle, usually when nobody's looking so the next time they're seen something looks... different but you're not quite sure. Tips are always appreciated, but for the most part they're hired to appear, sometimes in the same area as the real statues.

Any idea when (or even IF) this is going to be picked up and on what channel? Mind you, I missed most of "Celebracabra," I'll probably miss this too! But it would be nice to know.

Actually, having done the required Google search, I now see that NC is only putting this together and doesn't have a market yet!
