Sirs!
In what books is there a plan for this illusion? http://www.tilfordillusions.com/colossalGuillotine.html |

Alex,
I am the builder and designer of this guillotine you saw. NO PLANS are available. If not built properly this illusion could kill someone. We have many safety features to insure it's safety. It's wicked and I've refrained from selling it to anyone but the most professionals who sign disclaimers and will use it properly. If you can't afford to purchase our model I'd suggest buying another version of a guillotine. Making a guillotine like this type must be left to professional builders. Illusions such as this built in a home workshop could fail to work properly and could seriously harm or even kill someone. Devin Knight |

Alex,
Try to find the plans to an old U.F. Grant design or something similiar which uses the "drop-thru" method. This is much easier to build and safer. I must agree and stress Devin's point. This is NOT an Illusion for rookie builders unless guided by a professional craftsman and maybe a friend with a structural engineering background to review the plans and give it a thumbs up before and AFTER the Illusion is complete. Final thoughts. I would encourage you to buy a Guillotine rather than build it. Trust me, the materials add up quite fast not to mention the building time is extensive if only building 1 unit and being your first time. My first Guillotine, shown on my website, took almost 3 weeks to build. I started from scratch and created many subtle features and spent considerable time prepping the wood and finish coating. Either way, I am an experienced builder and it was a difficult project to create a SAFE and structurally sound Guillotine. Now that I have completed my first Guillotine, the next batch will be a breeze. I am currently re-designing my Guillotine, I am building it for a fellow Café member, which will feature many new additions and I promise it to be the Ultimate Guillotine. Brownbeauty is going to be a happy man Take care and good luck! Chance Wolf

Alex,
Then have no fear. Just add as many safety devices/methods as possible and build away. But be sure to "stand on the shoulders of giants" and find as many plans as you can, pull the best structural/safety methods and design your own version. Just be sure to build it safe enough to put your own childs head into...that's my personal method of being sure...it's just dragging him into the Guillotine that is difficult Chance
