Just had the great pleasure of watching "Flying Tonight" and I have to say, it's one of the very few DVD's that has way exceeded my expectations. I knew it was going to great - with Gary Jones & Chris Congreave, it just had to be – but it's not just great, it's brilliant! It's so nice to see material that not only looks amazing, but has actually been created to be practical too. The routines on the DVD end clean and reset, ready for the next performance. The other great news is that although the routines look extremely impressive - most of them are fairly straightforward to do. It's very rare when magicians of this calibre release routines from their professional working repertoires. I truly hope that Gary and Chris receive the support they deserve with these new projects and that they continue to share them with the magic community. VERY highly recommended! Similar experience here...far more than I expected. GJ 3 Fly is one of the very best I have come across. This is a production,3 fly and complete vanish - all done seamlessly. Some very clever construction here!!!
Good job with this routine and the five other coins across and three fly routines!!!!! cp
To see a difficult thing lightly handled gives the impression of the impossible.

Did I read somewhere that the CC Expensive Fly uses the Triple Threat gimmick? I am assuming the title refers to the cost of the gimmick, no? This is definitely on my to-get list, after I get done paying for all the kids' Christmas presents.

I also personally think that Chris Congreave's version of 3Fly using this devious gimmick is one of the best to date, Chris uses this routine in his professional work on a regular basis. All the best, Gary Jones.

If you've worked with coins a little then you will find most of the routines are easy to do, most just requiring you to learn the sequence and the choreography. The main emphasis is on 3 Fly type routines, but there are other items on there such as loading coins in spectator's pockets and under watches and impromptu coin effects etc. Just to add, the majority of the routines only require a finger p--m due to the nature of 3 Fly routines, all the routines were designed for a working performer, so pocket management and resetting is not an issue, you're always ready to go again! So while these routines are not self-working, none could be classed as really difficult. Hope this helps mate. Gary Jones.

I bought this DVD a while ago and love it. It was worth every penny. The teaching is great and the routines are great.

I have this DVD and generally liked it. There is no "Ponta the Smith" flash (or difficulty)(I love Ponta the Smith by the way). These are "worker routines" which to me means have fairly good angles and do not require moves which may be hit or miss in the hand of most of us. As Gary said the emphasis is on choreography and quick or no reset. The moves, such as they are, I did not think were explained in detail and I believe Gary's approach (he is here to speak for himself) was that you know these moves and if you do them with confidence they fly by lay people and the exact curl of your finger is not critical. I would love to see these guys in person or performing for lay people on a DVD I am sure they are very entertaining. Gary said he was intentionally leaving out his "bits of business" as that is how he makes his living.

All of the routines on this DVD were developed for/in the real world, a world where you have constant interruptions from waiting staff etc. It would be lovely to do the eye candy stuff that's on other DVDs, but in truth most of that stuff is for the magic club or conventions. I'm not putting this stuff down, but, in the real world you don't have the luxury of close-up mats or tables etc, you have to have routines which have to end at any point, are done at eye level and without a table, and they have to be modular and have an instant reset, this way you can pick and mix (end at any point), kinda jazz it really.
You could take any of the routines on this disc and refine them for a magic club setting, as most are classic plots. Xcath1, thank you for your kind words. I have loads of gags and bits of business, I feed off the spectators, but we wanted a low budget DVD where people could add their own humour and personality, I've seen so many Bill Malone and Daryl copycats lol! Regards, Gary Jones.

The last coin on Gary's "Coins Across" is worth buying the dvd for!
Chris's contributions aren't too shabby either. Happy New Year Gary btw! |

This dvd had a lot of great moves and routines in it. I loved the cc expensive 3 fly. In fact I bought the dvd just for the cc expensive 3 fly trick. However, I do have a problem with the dvd. I went right into watching the cc expensive 3 fly and the guy simply rushed the trick. This might have been because he was performing for another magician but it didn't do the trick justice. Then I went into the explanation and the guy said he wasn't going to go into to great of detail because it was described in part on another trick. Okay, so I go to that trick and he says that he wont go into to great of detail about parts because another trick explained it. So essentially I had to mesh three different tricks together just so I could learn the one. This was a big let down. I don't care if you explain part of the trick somewhere else on the dvd. I want the explanation in one place so I can go along with the dvd, not have to search through three different tricks just to piece it together. They are geniuses for the material but the presentation was lacking.
