I know this has been discussed a little in the Penny for your thoughts forum, but it needs to have a presence here. This is a KILLER effect. It is at Hocus Pocus.

Here is the Ad Copy:

"Tired of doing tricks? Bored of drawing duplications that only involve one person while the rest of the group sits back and watches?

Do you want a dynamic framework that involves the whole group? Do you want methods that rank amateurs wouldn't dream of doing? Do you want a killer performance piece for your next party?

Welcome to Intelligent Design. It is a presentational framework you can mold to your personality and to individual performing needs. It gives you room to participate with your audience and brings them into the action dynamically with often surprising results.

This isn't a drawing duplication you do for one person; this is a shared experience you create for a room full of people.

The method is built on solid mentalism principles and has been performed in every possible setting with devastating results. You literally become the life of the party.

Intelligent Design is for the smart mentalist who enjoys free form performance pieces that demand him to stay in the moment and create a shared experience for his audience. Intelligent Design was created with you in mind.

Now that I have posted the AD Copy, I must post my thoughts on the effect.

I just finished reading the booklet by Jason Messina from cover to cover and I must say this is now securely in my material I WILL perform. I love Osterlind's Drawing Duplication and this contains the elements I love in that system with a new and very refreshing impromptu and group inclusive nature.

It allows an entire group of people to be able to come up with the objects (In a very entertaining way) and then be a part of the thought receiving process. The end of the effect plays out like ODDS but with a mass of others drawing the thoughts they are receiving as well as the performer. This is an entertaining and fresh approach to an established and loved system. I HIGHLY recommend this.

The only thing to keep in mind is that it says it is a Design Duplication for Smart People, and it is. You will have to think a bit to make this happen. it is not hard to do though and I think most people will be able to easily develop the system Jason Messina teaches. Enjoy! -Matt Sconce

You are being begged to perform some amazing magic for people so you agree. You start saying random objects and having them think of the first objects that pop into their mind. The objects that pop into their mind are written onto cards by one of them.

When you have 15-20 cards with objects on them (Thought of by the audience), you have them choose one card while you look away. They then put the card back into the deck and it is held by someone so you cannot see it. The person who will be drawing the object that was on the card goes across the room and you go to the other side. The audience is between the two of you.

The person then tries to send the thought of the object while they draw it, while the audience and you try to catch the thought as you all try to draw it as well. You of course, draw almost the exact same image as the person with the card. Most of the time, even some of the people in the audience get scarily close, reinforcing the idea thoughts can be projected and making for an amazing ending.

I hope that helps! It is a completely impromptu mental miracle! -Matt Sconce

I do much the same thing with Tony Eye's 'Popular Selection.' I wonder what the differences are?

You are too modest, Jerome!

You not only do that, but you also shared with me one of your routines (some time ago) in which you receive and project thoughts and ALSO get your audience to try to do the same...

You should have sold it as a single piece!
Then you'll rise right before my eyes, on wings that fill the sky, like a phoenix rising!

Hi Jerome,
I just had the pleasure of reading Popular Selection only a week or two ago. Aside from having multiple people choose stuff, (I have some very different ideas) these two concepts are totally different. Tony's is a prediction and mine is a drawing duplication done in real time with randomly selected objects. The methods AND effects are significantly different.

Hope this helps!
