The range is pretty good 4 to 6 in. That's about my range when I perform with my scorpion. Cobra is pretty sensitive.

Hi Mystification
Why is the Cobra Sharpie so much more expensive than the new Cobra Sharpie 2.0? I too am interested in the range it can pick up the relic in somebodys hand. To answer this is really simple, the original Cobra Sharpie was developed by mozique for his own personal use. He developed it a few years ago and used it in his professional act for a couple of years and whenever he showed it off at the magic clubs, conventions etc he always got asked by other magicians 'i wont one, can you make me one' The problem was that each pen had to be hand made and soldered and each part of the internal electronics had to be hand tweaked and altered. The result was a pen that cost a lot to build and several hours to manufacture. Moz made only 50 odd units for Cobra Sharpie 1 and they al worked well but had the disadvantage of high cost plus the battery had to be changed by moz because they are tightly packed into the pen and would easily break if not handled correctly. Also the battery was hand soldered into the unit hence why you couldn't change the battery yourself. So these sold well but Peter at alakazam approached mOz to manufacture these properly so a lot of the internal mechanisms have been manufactured by a prefessional electronics company. And moz then fitts the pre made units into his hand drilled pens and check s each one to make sure it works properly making any needed adjustments. This has brought the cost down so this has been passed onto the end user. Plus we got proper budget to produce an excellent instructional video that is included in with the pen. I Have both Cobra sharpie 1 & 2 and the difference is simple. They both work fine except the second one is slightly more sensitive & you can easily change the battery as it has a manufactured battery holder!! Its simple really one is totally hand made and the other is part manufactured. Hope that clears that up! Cheers Dr john

Not sure of the battery, but you can find it readily available at radio shack or other electronic stores.

Does anyone know what the deal is with Cobra Sharpie 2.0? It has been out of stock for months now. I'm getting impatient.

If you can't wait why not get a Child's Play III. It will do what you want and more. It is stealth and easy to use.

Hmmmm.... not so stealth at all and less sensitive than the Cobra 2.0 in my experience! Worth a small wait for the cobra 2.0, and you have to ask yourself, how come it's selling out so quick??.....because it's that good!!
Also, if you can, get hold of the Fang - an innocent looking block of wood and nail....but works amazingly well with the Cobra. The reaction I'm getting with the Cobra 2 and the Fang is mind blowing!! Dave nothing succeeds like success.... Quote:

Today I got my CobraSharpie. I am a little bit disappointed of the range of my Sharpie.
I read in the forum: Ultra sensitive magnet detector ... the pick up for the scorpion is 3 - 4 inches!! My CobraSharpie is not able to read a magnet through my hand with more than 1 cm distance from the backside of my closed hand. My CobraSharpie is not reliable. I have to almost touch (1 to 2 cm distance) the magnet to read an uncovered magnet. If I move the CobraSharpie in a normal speed over a magnet, I get no vibration. Only if I move it unnatural slow with a max 2 cm distance, my Sharpie works. All of you were so exited of the CobraSharpie. Do I have to send the CobraSharpie back? Gunthard |

It also may depend on what type of magnet you are using. Neither the pen or the watch will pick up a regular magnet in a hand - you need a very powerful rare earth magnet for it to work. |

You can simply choose some routines as follows:
1. You force a card and let the audience to pick up, then form the cards in a circle as a dial on the desk, and put the pen in the circle as a pointer to find the card out. 2. You can place two objects on the desk, and let the pen to choose one. 3. You can place the pen on a card box or any other object, and control the pen to fall down. Or you can place the pen on the edge of a desk, and leave away, and then control it to fall. 4. You can use your ring or borrow one from the audiences, and then you hold an end of the pen and keep it balance, and put the ring in the middle of the pen. And you press the switch, make the pen shake, finally the ring will move to anther end and fall down in your hand. 5. You can make the pen stand up on a surface of deck or table, and then control it to circumvolve and fall down.. 6. If you have an assistant in your show, and give this pen to him/her, you will accomplish more striking mental tricks suck as cover your eyes and to tell the object, it is all up to your imagination. All what you go to do is what you want to do. Use your imagination to make the best use of it, then you will do more splendid tricks. |

I'm not sure using the Cobra Sharpie for a which hand effect is wise. How do you justify waving a marker under somebodies hand?
Sounds like you got a bad battery or bad marker. |

So, I just put in new batteries and realize my motor is the one that is broken and not the battery.
How can I get this fixed anyone, I tried contacting Alakazam, no luck so far, and their phone number on the site isn't going through =(... |
