I noticed that no one has ever posted anything on one of my favorite little packet tricks call Dream Queen. It is very simple for the spectator to understand, easy to perform, and I have gotten many great reactions with it, plus it is cheap (~$4). The trick is described as follows:
Performer shows an envelope containing four cards, the four Queens. The spectator names any one of the four Queens. When the four cards are removed from the envelope and fanned out, the selected Queen is found face up between the other three Queens, which are face down. Best of all, when the selected Queen is turned over, it is the only Queen with a different color back! Wow! An easy to perform packet (small pack of cards) trick. Includes all cards needed plus color instructions. I like to carry it with me everyday and for the people I see often I use it as a running test of my precognition abilities by telling them that I got an image of the queen that they were going to pick last night and put it in this envelope. They pick a queen and I am right once again. The first time or two they think I must have just been luckily since I have a 25% chance just by guessing. After a few days of getting their card correct they really start to wonder. Anyway it is very easy to learn to do, no slights, and resets itself. Works great as a trick by itself or as a lead in to other tricks like the Brain Wave Deck or Invisible Deck. Over all, bang for your buck, you can not go wrong with this one.

It was just an Indian made version of "Parade of The Kings" that Supreme used to market many years ago and the basis for many later variations on the 4 card "brainwave" theme, of which Max Maven's "B'Wave" is the best.

Paul,
Thanks for that.. You most likely won't remember, but I sat next to you at one of Mark Leveridge's close up conventions in Bath? Cheltenham? Bristiol? about 15 years ago? Remember? We chatted about the origin of the 3 card monte (emerson west). I have your packet tricks book - excellent book! Tks DCB

Bath University. Mark's conventions were excellent, extremely well organised and tiered seating for the close up shows. Do I remember you sitting next to me 15 years ago? Sorry, no, but sometimes I have trouble remembering what I ate for dinner yesterday. You have a great memory. Glad you enjoyed my book.

Paul, you had bangers and mash yesterday for dinner.
DCB, Paul Hallas has a DVD called "Packet trick Treasures" that I'm thoroughly enjoying. Just an FYI since you mentioned Paul's book.

It is indeed, for the price, a very nice effect. Like Paul said it is Indian-made: the cards have the Bicycle print but are made of cardboard ot something like that. Frans |

Packet Trick Treasures is actually not the title of the DVD, but rather the title of the series of DVD's (of which only two DVD's have currently been released).
No, it wasn't bangers and mash for dinner, that's a rare treat, I would have remembered that! But back to the plot, "Parade of The Kings" which is the same as "Dream Queen" and was on the market before it, is available from Martini's Magic Co (Marty Grams) on regular Bicycle card stock, should people have interest in that. I fully agree with you! I've been carrying "Parade of Kings" (Original name) with me for DECADES! Like other "4-card packet tricks", the "1-out-of-4" chance seems PLAUSIBLE to an audience, and NOT a "trick". However, UNLIKE "B'Wave..."Parade of Kings"/"Dream Queens" have no "OUTS"... (Spectator says "Black, and the magi says "OK, we'll eliminate those, and use Red!"...just how dumb do you think your audience is?) I'll take "Parade of Kings" over "B'Wave anyday. I figured out a way to perform B'Wave so the spectator can choose ANY queen or king or jack! Not hard. However, I have jumbo Dream Queen and it is great for strolling or in small Shows. Always ready to go and instant reset!
