Thanks guys. I was envisioning adding this as a possible closer. Just a terrific routine!

I just got TWO great thank you notes for a show I did at the Compton School, both signed by a about a million students and teachers. The first was addressed to me. The second thank you note was addresed to the THE MAGIC GOOSE!

Sorry to burst your bubble - but it wasn't the school kids - as an April Fools Day joke I wrote those thank you notes!!!

Very funny Mumford. Those thank you notes verifiably came from an elementary school. That's how I know you wrote them, since you are in kindergarten.

I filled in for my friend Tony at a monthly burlesque night. When I did the goose some guy yelled "Can I goose the goose?" Everyone laughed and I didn't have a clever comeback so I just laughed along and finished the routine to a good applause. After the show one of the exotic dancers asked if she could pet my goose. Again I didn't have a clever comeback so I just laughed. The Mindreading Goose brings a lot of laughs.

Woodfield thank you for the snappy comebacks, I'm sure everyone enjoyed them. In the unlikely event those comments are hurled at me again I'll respond accordingly. The goose just whispered in my ear, "He said, if that Woodfield guy ever crosses your path buy him dinner, but no goosing the goose!"

No problem. Planned adlibs are good to have. It's a great way to stay "connected" with your audience.

I don't perform, so the Goose isn't something I would order, but I did get Steve Spills DVD "Ten Years Of Spill" when he was the Café's special guest and I watch it often ( and laugh hard ). I sell almost everything I buy because it's just a casual hobby, but I'd never sell this DVD. The Goose and a bunch of other great performances are on it!

I'm also a fan of the 10 Years dvd. As far as planned adlibs, that's a good idea, but sometimes a real adlib is needed.
I did the Goose at a high school grad night and asked someone to take out a few coins. When I said "the Goose has made his decision, tell everyone, how much change have you got there?" He said "32 cents, I got it from a homeless guy" Off the top of my head, I had the Goose whisper in my ear, "The Goose says you also got his clothes." Worked like a charm and that funny response just came out all by itself without any effort. Great when that happens. |

I ordered a Mindreading Goose and the routine was performance ready in two weeks. Just tried it out at a charity gig and it has to be one of the strongest routines that I do! The gimmick takes a little experimentation over a couple of weeks, I used the supplied routine, with minor differences, and since I read here about all the extra Kozak ideas I thought that the ending might need to be beefed-up; I was wrong. The climax of the coins in the pocket is extremely strong and I'm afraid to change it. I give the Mindreading Goose my highest rcommendation.

This is excellent and the goose has a permanent home with me. If you want a highly visual routine, with plenty of laughs that's a fooler-dooler, this is the one to get. The dvd explains the handling in detail, although it will take some time to master it and get confortable with a goose under your arm. Anyone who has seen this routine can't help being entertained by it!

Woodfield's (aka Barry Wood) take on the Mindreading Goose was just great. He really made it fit the "Woodfield" character.
Barry is one of the greatest of the "unknowns'. When I say unknown I mean to magicians. Barry is a top flight performer based in the Washington D.C. area. He's one of the funniest, driest people I've ever had the pleasure to know. He does it all from close-up to kids to stage. I spent countless and I mean countless hours with Barry during my years in the D.C. area. When I look back he was one of the main influences that made me into a pro performer. There were many others but Hank Miller and Barry definitely put up with me more than anybody else. I hope one day he'll decide to show the magic community how good he is. He's got a ton of "A" material he's been developing for decades. Thanks Barry! |

Hey, Bob, my feelings exactly. Living here in the Washington area, I get to see Barry once in a while. He makes me laugh - hard!

Woodfield is hilarious. In addition to telling audiences the goose is not only his partner on stage, but also off stage as his wife. Woody wears a red fez with a tassel and so does his goose. He also snorts a flute and wears psychedelic glass. Love that WoodMan.

My last two shows I've added a new trick utilizing the Goose that everyone loves. I have expanded on one of Kozak's ideas and have a small whicker basket on a table that I put the Goose in so she is upright and facing the audience during my show and I come back to the Goose periodically throughout my performance for sevreal bits. The Goose has become more than a single routine and now is the co-star of my show.
My closer is a Bank Night effect where I accidentally burn someone's cash. I pick up the Goose and at the same time secretly take an egg I have in the basket and drop it from under the Goose and it lands in the basket, which is padded. It looks just like the Goose laid the egg and everyone cracks up. You guessed it, when I crack open the egg the borrowed cash is inside. Without giving too many details I hope I've inspired a few Goose workers like Kozak has inspred me with his posts. |
