I saw James Swain do a Texas Hold-em deal at a book signing a couple of years ago. It is beautiful. The deck is divided and shuffled by several specs. and then he stacked the winning hand using aces and kings. I worked out my own method that night and have used it ever since with great results. I'm pretty sure I am using his method, but would like to know for sure. We talked a little afterwards about riffle stacking and he said that he would send me the poker deal if I would e-mail him, but I never did since I assumed that I worked it out (stupid mistake, and now I can't find a contact for him). I have been crediting him for my version and will continue to do so. This is without a doubt my favorite "impromptu" deal. It absolutely kills card players. Any help would be much appreciated.

Griff,
If you like Swain's style you might enjoy his 4 DVD set "Miracles" The Magic of James Swain! I have the set and have had a ball learning from it! Mick |

Hey Mick, I am going to buy his set. I love his style! I also love his fiction books...anyone else like his books? They all star a guy by the name of Tony Valentine, and his job is to catch Vegas cheats. Fun reads!

I also like Swain's fiction. In one of the Tony Valentine books they discuss a blackjack scam called "big rock" "little rock". In involves the dealer always turning over the low card of his two which increases the house edge-which was then skimmed off. Its ideas like that which I found interesting.

The 4 DVD set of James Swain is a very valuable set. I'm very happy with this set. He uses a table, but performs most of the time standing-up behind the table. I found this very interesting as you can perform "table gambling moves".
Yes Griff, I also like a lot his novels with Tony Valentine. Olivier |

I have a nephew that plays Texas Hold'em. I would really like to do this effect for him.
Is there a place where one can get only the Texas Hold'em card effect? Are there any other versions that someone could recommend?

My effect "No Limit" appeared in my 4th One-Man parade in The Linking Ring in 7/07. As far as I can tell, it is the first effect to faithfully replicate a round of Texas Hold 'Em.
For any of you who are interested and don't have access to that issue, send me an email and I'll send you my write-up. Tom Frame |

You can also use Jack Carpenter's Nine Angry Men with a bit of a modification to turn it into a Texas Hold Em routine. It's on his gambling vhs tape.

Gadfly,
I don't recall which Swain book the "selective upcard" (as the scam is usually termed) was in, so I can't check to see if he got it wrong or you did, but it should be the high cards (9s and 10s) that are turned up, not the low cards. If you have a marked deck and can tell whenever 10s (and 9s) are coming out, turning one of them as your upcard is worth about 2.78% over a basic strategy player. Under some rules turning Aces over is also advantageous, under others it isn't. Even when it does help, it only helps a small amount. Turning up a 10 is where the money is made. Jason
