I have the Confusing Crayons, kids love it. Does the Peanut Butter and Jelly work about the same? I have seen it as cheap as $35.00. I was wondering if the quality of the prop is good?
Thanks! |

If you get the original from Timothy Weeks then it is good. It is a KILLER routine. Kids LOVE IT.
A must for any kids show. Ken |

I would stick with Timothy's Wenk's original version ... not a copy. It plays really well for kids.
As for the crayons, I could never come up with a logical ENDING for the trick. Tim |

Hey there. First off, Tim, I have a children's magic booklet that should be out on the market within the the next year (hopefully) that includes my routine for "Tricky Bottles." The trick is the same as the crayons but with bottles. In the booklet is the routine I use that has a nice ending and the kids absolutely love it!
As for PB&J, I have it but I cannot think of a good routine. I know the basic "switching" plot works well but I'm wondering what the other possibilities are. -Andini |

A great effect. Bruce Bray had a Silly Billy write up with PB&J— very good routine.
Don't recall the year / month?

Penguin Magic has this effect, I will have to email them and see if it's Timothy Wenk's version!

I recently brought the Peanut Butter & Jelly Trick because I heard a lot of recommendations. The only part I dislike about it is preparing a sandwich before each of my shows.

Beware of allergies to peanuts when doing the sandwich part of PB&J.
Some schools will not even allow peanut butter or peanut butter sandwiches on the premises. As for an ending to Confusing Crayons or Tricky Bottles, in my Showtime column in the Linking Ring magazine of April, 1993, I did a routine in which there was a logical ending for Tricky Bottles (and it would work equally well for the Crayons). It involves spring flowers and turning the "sting" portion of the trick against the magician. |

I can't imagine anyone even thinks about actually doing the "sandwich thing".

Yeah you don't need to do the sandwich part. As far as the jelly jars, empty the content out and spray paint it black inside. It will be a lot lighter if you do this.

Great effect. There is nothing wrong with using the sandwich.

I always use the sandwich to end the routine. However, I don't hand it out to the assistant. I spread the bread apart to show the PB & J and then take a couple bites out of the sandwich to prove it's real. I stick it back in the Ziploc bag I brought it to the show in, and then eat it on the way to my next show. When you are travelling around on the weekends, it saves you from stopping to buy lunch.
I have found no problem with preparing the sandwiches before hand. I make up how ever many I need, put each in a Ziploc bag and leave the rest in the car. It is a routine I have enjoyed performing in my kids act for close to 14 years now. Bought the Tim Wenk version from Dick Stoner in 1988. Just my two cents. |

Ken, I had jelly leak all over one day. What a mess! The very next day I painted mine, you would never know.

The appearance of the real sandwich actually
gets great reactions. It glues together the whole routine as the peanut butter and jelly "collide" and end up between the two previously shown bread slices. I like to fool around with this trick and say I'm in a "jam" as the kids are yelling...

I end the PB&J trick by making them change into pickles and relish. You just cut out the bottoms of the jelly jars and spray the insides black. Now if you squeeze when lifting the PB, you can also lift the jelly revealing the pickles and relish that are below.
