The School for Scoundrels book by Whit Hayden is excellent.
Daryl's Three Card Monte DVD is also good. Other sources include a chapter in Expert at the Card Table, and Dai Vernon's Further Inner Secrets of Card Magic. |

I'll second the Daryl DVD!
So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark — that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.

Between Daryl and School for Scoundrels you'll have around 75-85% of the most important stuff out there. Both have a great basic coverage of the basic plot using bent cards before they branch out, with SFS taking a deep look at the game as a con, and Daryl adding some exotic routines from other magicians (such as Vernon's 7 Card Monte).
After that, for flat card monte, two more things to research would be Trevor Lewis's Monte Plus move and R. Paul Wilson's work on Gipsy Monte. There's also plenty of basic small packet moves and false displays that can be employed (Daryl covers a ton). (Personally, I second Ed's recommendation of Steve Draun's routine.)

Erdnase has a clear description and insight into this, and you can often find the book as a free download.

I cut my teeth on Audley V. Walsh and John Scarne's 3 card Monte booklet.
One time, when I was young, I botched a sleight so bad, Vernon, Marlo & Miller rolled over in their graves. But I didn't see Elmsley, probably because he was behind the others.

Eugene Burger's presentation of the three card monte is also worth checking out.

I think that the School For Scoundrels DVD on Three card Monte is one of the best things that has been published on three card monte. If you are interested in three card monte my suggestion is to get it.
After that Erdnase has a section on it in the classic book Expert at the card table. John Scarne wrote a booklet on Three card monte and that is a very good booklet. Dai Vernon had a routine written up in Further inner secrets of card magic (Lewis Ganson). Cy Endfield had a routine written up in his book Entertaining Card magic (Lewis Ganson). I hope this helps.

- At the Card Table - Darwin Ortiz (both the video and the book are a good source)
- Sal Piacente' Three Card Monte DVD - Dai Vernon - Further Inner Secrets Of Card Magic - Dai Vernon Revelation series, vol 9 - Daryl's Three Card Monte DVD - Fernando Keops - Cheating at cards - vol 1 - ... I recommend Darwin' or Vernon sources, of course! |

Gimmicked OR un-gimmicked???
Michael Skinner's "3 Card Monte" and also Lee Asher has a great "ungimmicked" instant download teaching the hype and everything else "Catch 33" Cheers, Justin

I'm learning Michael Skinner's routine. I find the instruction booklet very clear and helpful. I've tried other monte routines that come with DVD instructions but have found the method of learning this way tiresome.
